Re: cheap aliexpress LC100a = $13 paperweight?
Thanks Stephen.? Doug posting that article yesterday is what got me leaning toward fix it and keep it.? Seeing it again has pushed me 99% over the fence.

Re: cheap aliexpress LC100a = $13 paperweight?
Thanks Mike.? Do you remember what you replaced L1 with?? The more I read it looks like the less the value matters.? I now have a folder full of different cal routines and will probably try them

Re: cheap aliexpress LC100a = $13 paperweight?
Here is an article on how to improve the LC100A.

Re: cheap aliexpress LC100a = $13 paperweight?
Doug,
I bought one of these about 5 years ago. I replaced the L1 toroid
immediately and got reasonable results. I can tell you that a big
improvement came by using a rather convoluted calibration

Re: LT Spice Alternatives
Hi William,
I am glad my video helped a bit. I am no expert in LTSpice, I use it as a tool (just like I don¡¯t need to know the metallurgical ins and outs of building a hammer in order to use it ;)

What a deal! That must have been fun, going through all the parts when you got home.

Karl and Nick,
It was I who dropped the original post asking about alternatives to LT Spice. Because I don't like to clutter up the threads, if someone does not respond after a day or two, I drop the

Re: cheap aliexpress LC100a = $13 paperweight?
Doug how long are your test leads? Really long leads can mess up the readings even if zeroed out.

Let us know how it goes. I bought one too but "maybe luckily" can't find
it. I think I only paid $10.00 with free shipping.

Re: Mighty Mike Transmitter
I don't see the feedback path to cause the crystal to oscillate. If
Q2 is supposed to be a Colpitts oscillator, it is not correct and
missing the feedback capacitors from base to emitter and

Yeah, I was thinking that it needed those "Collpits" caps.

Re: Mighty Mike Transmitter
Mike,
I think there should be 2 caps in series from the base to ground with the
midpoint tied to the emitter. Also, remove the .01uF cap from emitter to
ground. I'll research the values for the 2

Mighty Mike Transmitter
I've begun building this transmitter (Manhattan style) but cannot get the oscillator to oscillate. Has anyone built this before? I also put the oscillator into LTSpice and did not see oscillation.

Yup, you're right! I can't even go by the 5% tolerance values I gave! Sorry, looks like this LC100A meter may indeed be defective.

Steve the LC100A meter is reading the cap at 292.9pF, which is not within 5% tolerance.? ?That info is from the picture.? ?Doug Hendricks

Not much in these things but an oscillator, a frequency counter and some easy math.
I mentioned a simple instrument that makes an L or C measurement, and renders answer in Morse code. It does
