MI QRP Weekly Zoom Chat

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

We had nine folks join the MI QRP Zoom Chat on 13 March. Please join us Thursday March 20 (and every Thursday) at 4PM Eastern for the Michigan QRP Club weekly QRP Chat where the main topics will be QRP and other ham interests. New hams are encouraged to participate and ask questions. It's fun, it's easy, and it's free. You only need a computer, a smart phone, or a tablet that can connect to the Internet. OR if you can't be close to any of those you can join by audio with any standard phone. Just follow the directions below. No software needs be loaded or installed. Anyone can join and non members are welcome. Details are here:

The topic for Thursday, 20 March will be AN OPEN FOURM.

Effective starting next week there will be a new ID number will be 811 0835 6229. This ID should be good going forward. Ernie will be hosting from now on.

It seems that the FCC will be revising rules and other changes. Standby for any impact to the amateur radio community. Lots of rumors.

There is a new antenna design that is getting some buzz called the Performer.
It is a vertical antenna with one (at least) tuned radial. A VE ham has a YouTube video on it.
Why does it work better than ground radials? Several said that the elevated radials work better than ground radials. Do radials steer the signal? Less ground losses?

Ed showed some photos form his trip in Iceland. There was a museum in Sk¨®gar where there was a large collection of radios.

We are sorry for the short meeting. We are transitioning from one Zoom host to a new Zoom host and there were some hiccups.

The agenda for the 20 March QRP Chat:
  1. Ernie to do a short introduction and acknowledge any new folks to the Zoom chat.
  2. Next week will be an Open Forum.

During the open forum anyone can take the floor. We will go one by one until all have had a chance to have the floor. Files, pictures and presentations can be shared if you have any. Please try to stay muted when someone has the floor.

Thanks
Ed
