Dick Witzke, KE8KL, W7DKU and K7NL <SK>

It is with sadness that I announce the passing of Dick Witzke on
Saturday Aug 21, 2019 in Phoenix AZ.

Dick was owner and kit designer of Oak Hills Research, which he
bought from Doug DeMaw, W1FB, in the early 1990's.? Dick designed
many kits that we have all built and enjoyed over the years.? Here
is a list of all that I can remember without doing research:

OHR 100 and 100A series
OHR Classic Dual band 2040
OHR Spirit
OHR 400
OHR 500
DD-1 digital display
WM-2 wattmeter
OHR Explorer

and some more that I have probably neglected to list here.

OHR has been owned by Milestone Technologies in CO for
10 years or more when Dick retired and later moved back to AZ.
Dick was a graduate of DeVry here in Phoenix AZ.

I and many others will remember him a long time as we operate
his designs from time to time.

He had the call KE8KL when he was in Grand Rapids MI and changed
to W7DKU and obtained the vanity call K7NL last Aug of 2018.

Chuck,

So very sorry to hear of Dick's passing. I fondly remember his OHR kits - I built two OHR-100s (40m and 30m), an OHR-500, a DD-1, and, of course, the ubiquitous WM-2. My first QRP kit was the 40m OHR-100 that infected me with the bug! There were a number of telephone conversations between before I got that unit the air and Dick was patient and encouraging. Never forget my first QRP QSO tuning up the rig with a guy in San Francisco on five watts! Wow!

Also a fond memory is my joyous chat with him when I ordered his OHR-500. He cautioned me that they required the winding of a great many toroids and I blithely remarks something like, "bring it on! The more the better!" (The rig was quiet as the tomb and worked magnificently!)

I shall miss him terribly!
