Time and Backups

Guillermo - HK4KM

Hello.? I'm using the Linux flatpak QLog under Arch, latest version and have two issues to resolve:

1. The time is always shown as AM or PM within QLog.? I would like the time to be UTC always and that the QSO info uses UTC in 24 hour format.? Changing the Gnome time format setting to 24 hour to no effect in QLog.? I would like to keep my computer time in 12 hour format and QLog time in 24 hour format.?

2. Is there a way to disable backups?? I may start QLog 3 or 4 times during the day.? I don't want 4 backups of the same date with same size taking up space.? Or a way to establish every how often I want QLog to backup my log or to have a manual option to do it when convenient.

Thanks for this logging program which is very good and works quite well.

Best regards de HK4KM, Guillermo

Hello,

1)
please, see ?? or?

Time Format is controlled by your Linux setting. Gnome time format has no effect. It is controlled by Environment variable LC_TIME

2)
There is no such option to disable backup. it is better to have 3 or 4 backups per day than to lose QSOs during QLog database migration or other unpredictable operations or issues in QLog.

Ladislav

Thanks for your reply.

Managed to get the flatpak to use the correct time in 24 hour format.? But it is more complicated than what was shown in the example.? At least for my distribution (Arch) and Gnome.? Very complicated and will probably have to be re-done when a new flatpak version comes out.? This should be a parameter in a config file that QLog reads on startup and set the time format accordingly.

As to the backups, I disagree with your assessment that many backups (mine is close to 20MB each time) is better.? The best solution would be a dialog when quitting the app asking if one wants a backup or not.? Perhaps one did not make any new contacts so no need for a new backup which would be an exact copy of who knows how many previous ones.? Or, QLog should compare if new info was recorded to the DB and ask.? If no difference between new and previous backup, do nothing.?

I now have a script that deletes the backups to save space.? My log is uploaded to LoTW, eQSL, and QRZ so hard to loose.? Also, on more than one computer.

Thanks for the message. As I wrote, the time format is controlled by your OS settings using LC-variables. If you have different settings than you want, it is your choice.

Backups are made at startup, not at shutdown, for several reasons. One of the reasons is not to damage data during automatic database upgrades. Users would not like to implement a dialog box like this, and above all, it goes against the idea of QLog - to do everything automatically, if possible, without the intervention of the operator.
