Settings won't save passwords

I have been using QLog for a while. I just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04.2 and QLog on my computer. When I go through the setup process and add, say Clublog, with the password and click on save the process seems to hang up. If I close out of it the password is not saved. This happens for all of the services that I enter a password for. I seem to recall seeing this problem mentioned before. I have looked through the messages on the board and can't seem to find it. Sorry for the repeat, but I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I¡¯m not very familiar with Linux but is a message chain and it talks a little bit about password storage requirements on the different versions of Linux.

Or wiki here:

Supported Secure Password Storage

  • Linux: LibSecretKeyring, GnomeKeyring, Kwallet4, Kwallet5
  • Windows: Windows Credential Store
  • MacOS: macOS Keychain

Good luck.

Hi Roy,
?
? Since it seems to lock up, I would start QLog from a terminal window. When QLog locks up, see if there are any error messages printed to the terminal. debug may need to be enabled - not sure.

I tested the same distribution as you and didn't notice any issue with password settings. Check if you have the "Password and Keys" application and can run it. QLog uses the external service to store passwords under Ubuntu. It is possible that you have it blocked or not working somehow.

Thanks for your response. The "Password and Keys" app was installed and I was able to run it. That didn't seem to make any difference. I removed the DEB package, installed Flatpak and the Flatpak QLog package. Everything seems to be working properly now. 73

Hello Roy,

It is good and bad news. The good news is that it is working after installing Flatpak. The bad news is that I cannot understand when the problem can be. Both packaged DEB and Flatpak use the same password service.? I tested several settings in the distribution you mentioned - I have installed it in a virtual machine. And I did not notice the behavior you described.
