Export File (Time - Without Seconds)

Hi Ladislav
?
I am setting up a CSV export for QSL card labels using GLabels and notice the time is exported with seconds included, like 23:22:56 for example.
?
I have tried importing the file into a spread sheet and setting the time column to display without seconds, but it has been unsuccessful. The time comes in as a "General Number" and as it is imported as 23:22:56 it will not change the format.
?
I'm using 24 hour time format in Mint Cinnamon with the format set to NOT show seconds and in?QLOG its set to 24 hour time under GUI tab.
?
The reason I'd like to omit the seconds is so that it does not take up so much space on the label. I understand it may be of interest for EME or some other mode requiring high accuracy but for HF not so much.
?
Is there a way to remove the seconds from the time format either during export or some other way?
?

What spreadsheet program were you using? ?I’m not familiar with gLabels. ?If I open a CSV file in excel I was able to change the column to time then do a custom format to hh:mm.

Hi Michael
?
The spreadsheet is part of the Libre Office suite both it and glables are running under Linux Mint
?
Ypu can do the same under Libre Office but it refuses to change. Possibly because it's a "General number" and not a time format... But I'm guessing

It's working in my case (Ubuntu 24.04 and Libre Office). Try to do this in two steps: After csv import to Libre Calc change only to Time but leave hh:mm:ss format. In second step change format? to hh:mm. Good luck!

That is similar to what I had to do with Excel.

Thanks Slav & Micheal
?
OK, I tried your suggestion, but still it does not work in LibreOffice Calc for Linux. I also tried it on a Windows machine running LibreOffice Calc as well... Same result - Nada
?
However, I opened up an online Office 365 session (Thanks to my boss) and it changed without a hiccup. Maybe its specific to LibreOffice Calc, or just an undocumented feature?
?
Either way it can be changed, but fails under my installations on Linux and Windows (don't know why though... weird), I will comment: It would be nice if there was an option to suppress seconds when exporting... It just reduces one or two steps and make the whole export simpler/ easier... Maybe not from a programming perspective but certainly from an end user standpoint.
?
Thanks for your help

Hi Adam,
The most important thing is that you managed.
BTW and TBH, who and why needs seconds precision in the log? IMHO minutes accuracy is quite sufficient.
I'm asking without malice, maybe I just don't know something.

Anytime someone is making more than one contact a minute.

Hi Slav
?
This is my point. I wanted to remove the seconds from the export

Hi Kyle,
That's true. But even in such a case, for example, contest's logs or the rather draconian LOTW regulations allow a time mismatch of several minutes. If I remember correctly, LOTW has a tolerance of up to 30 minutes. So the seconds in the log don't really matter.

Slav.. I would say that maybe they don't matter to you, but they do matter in general. In logs with multiple QSOs per minute without seconds you loose the ability to chronologically order them deterministically. Regardless, this is a moot point; it's trivial to remove the seconds from the data set with an external tool like excel or even a text editor with regex find and replace if it is necessary for whatever your use case is. If you feel like it is really necessary to EXPORT Qs without seconds, feel free to open a feature request in github. I can tell you that the seconds will never be removed from the application's internal log.

No Kyle, I never requested to completely remove seconds from the log. My intention was to point out that seconds are not really needed for display/export/printing. This is the case e.g. in contest loggers, cabrillo file always contains hhmm time format. The use of seconds, except of database operations,? not always is realy needed.
