AJ1DM Preliminary 80m Fox Log
3
Wow, that was depressing. If I've learned one thing this 80m season it's that I can't be an 80m fox again until I do something with my antenna. For over half of the hunt I was getting 0, 1, or 2 spots on the RBN. That's not good. Most of you were 559 or below. QSB seemed monstrous to GA. I must have tried to give Phil K4PQC a pelt 5 or more times. But every time I'd send my exchange he'd disappear. Thanks Phil for toughing it out. Same thing happened with John K4BAI, but only once, then I never heard him again. Someone was persistently calling at the end, but was just barely detectable. I never got more than a character or two of your call sign. Sorry! So here's the big log: 0101 N1IX 559 NH DAVE 5 0103 AK3X 559 MD PETER 5 0106 K2SJB 559 NY DAVE 5 0109 WX2S 559 NJ STEVE 5 0110 AK1P 559 NH PAUL 5 0112 KK5LD 559 TX DAN 5 0113 NC4RT 559 NC RANDY 5 0116 KC1FB 559 CT JIM 5 0117 N2RK 599 NY JACK 5 0120 W9XU 559 WI LON 5 0122 N2TNN 559 VA DEAN 5 0123 N9NE 559 WI TODD 5 0127 K2TW 579 VA TOM 5 0129 WB9HFK 559 IL MARK 5 0133 K9CW 559 IL DREW 5 0135 K4PQC 559 GA PHIL 5 0138 NX1K 559 MA MARK 5 0156 K3PH 559 PA BOB 5 0215 W1FMR 559 FL JIM 5 0218 KK4BNC 559 GA RANDY 5 FOX AJ1DM 599 RI JOHN 5 FOX NK9G 599 WI RICK 5 22 pelts, and it will be a miracle if I got them all correct! Oops, I almost forgot! Here's my final for Tuesday night's 40 meter hunt. As I indicated, I removed several duplicate contacts and combined the computer log with the 10 minutes of hand logging when my computer went to lunch. Thank you all for the calls and your patience. K0DTJ Preliminary Log for the March 11, 2025 QRP Fox Hunt
2
Greetings Hounds, Well that was as close to a disaster as I've had in my Fox career! For some reason N1MM stopped updating, probably it was having trouble with the radio interface or maybe it was caused by Windows thinking is should update, but it stopped accepting input from the keyboard. Anyway, between about 0119z and 0130z I was trying to carry on by hand logging, knowing not reporting to the Fritz Map would generate a lot of dupes. I'm sure it frustrated several folks and I'm sorry it happened. Thanks for bearing with me. Here is my preliminary log with the hand logging inserted as needed. I will remove the duplicate contacts in the final. If you see any other problems, please let me know. 72, Brian, K0DTJ K0DTJ Preliminary Log 03/11/25 Time Call Rec QTH Name Pwr 0101 W6SIY 559 CA KEITH 5W 0102 K6XR 559 CA MAC 5W 0102 K6PJV 559 CA DALE 5W 0103 NK6A 599 CA DON 5W 0104 NO2D 559 CO PETER 5W 0105 WC7S 599 WY DALE 5W 0107 NK3H 599 AZ MITCH 5W 0109 AD6IU/7 559 OR DICK 5W 0112 K0LOA 559 TX DWAIN 5W 0117 KZ5J 559 TX PAT 5W 0119 KR0U 539 CO TIM 5W 0120 N9NE 559 WI TODD 5W 0120 KK5LD 559 TX DAN 5W 0123 K9CW 559 IL DREW 5W 0125 N9NE 559 WI TODD 5W 0128 K9IUA 559 IA KEVIN 5W 0130 N2RK 559 NY JACK 5W 0133 ND4K 559 GA DAVE 5W 0135 WB5BKL 559 TX NICK 5W 0137 K7GO 599 MT LEW 5W 0139 WQ0N 559 MN RUSS 5W 0142 WI6O 579 CA JOHN 5W 0143 N2RK 559 NY JACK 5W 0145 K9IUA 599 IA KEVIN 5W 0147 WD4CFN 559 TN STEVE 5W 0150 WB9HFK 559 IL MARK 5W 0158 AD6JV 559 CA BILL 5W 0202 K4PQC 559 GA PHIL 5W 0208 W1FMR 559 FL JIM 5W 0209 N9NE 559 WI TODD 5W 0214 WB8QZM 559 TX BRIAN 5W 0215 W5AJD 559 LA JERRY 5W 0216 K9TA 559 IN STEVE 5W 0219 W6QPA 559 CA RAY 5W 0220 K9DRP 559 IL DON 5W 0222 KK4BNC 559 GA RANDY 5W 0223 K6FA 599 CA DAVID 5W 0225 KI0RB 559 CO VINCE 5W 0227 K4BAI 339 GA JOHN 5W 0230 NK9G FOX WI RICK 5W 0230 K0DTJ FOX CA BRIAN 5W

AJ1DM 80m Fox Announcement
Tomorrow night I will be your 80m fox, along with Rick NK9G . We will be prowling around between 3.550 and 3.57 MHz from 9 -10:30 PM Eastern, aiming to give out lots of pelts! I'll be running my K3 at 5w to my 80m inverted L. I will start out split, as always, and will transition to simplex if and when the pack thins out. There are often a few hounds who miss that transition. The signal is very subtle: when split I send "CQ FOX AJ1DM UP" and when simplex "CQ FOX AJ1DM K". Pay close attention so you are transmitting on the frequency that I'm most likely to hear and thus most likely to give you a pelt! Having said that, spread your QRG's so I can dissect the pack as quickly as possible. Zero-beaters make terrible hunters!! I plan to post on the Fritz map. I look forward to working as many of you Hounds as possible in my last appearance of the winter seasons! 72 de John AJ1DM

AJ1DM Final 40m Fox Log - Mar 5 2025
Somehow I wrote this a few days ago but never clicked send. Belatedly here's the final log, eliminating dupes and qro's and correcting power for Drew K9CW from 55W to 5W and the name for Brad KG5UK from BBrad to Brad. K0DTJ Fox Announcement for Tuesday March 11, 2025
Greetings Hounds, I see that chatter has begun about Tuesday's 40 meter hunt so I'd better get with it! I'll be your West Coast Fox for the hunt on Tuesday night (Wednesday GMT) at 1800 PST (0100 GMT). I'll be operating from my QTH in Half Moon Bay, CA (CM87sm) with one of my Elecraft rigs running 5 watts into an inverted V doublet. I'll start by working split, listening up 1-2 kHz (or more) and when I stop sending 'up' I'll be listening near my TX frequency. I continuously monitor my TX frequency and even though I'm working split, I may QSO someone there just to eliminate the QRM. But don't be fooled, If I'm sending 'up' that's where I'll be listening. I plan to post to the Fritz maps and will have it up on my spare screen to make sure the spots are going out. PS: I don't mind dupes if needed to confirm success. It's been a tough winter season from the West Coast and I'm looking forward to the adrenaline rush of being your Fox. Good luck everyone! 72, Brian, K0DTJ

But allow me please to catch up¡ here are the Hounds who have begun hunting in the past 5 weeks. 40m ========= K5KJ, Sam TX KN6JPE, Den CA W1GL, Ted CT WB7UOF, Walt AZ N4KU, Allan KY N8AP, Spencer, MI W4SGN, Steve VA N3CI, Dave OK 80m ========= K0RC, Bob MN KM4TQD, AJ GA KF4LMZ, Pat SC N4GG, Hal GA 72 de NC4RT -- a^2 + b^2 = c^2 x^2 + y^2 = r^2 e^iPi + 0^2 = i^2

Charts 80m foxhunt 250307
9
I'm uncertain whether to continue collecting the RBN maps... Pro: they give a bit of context on propagation; they are cool. Con: they take a few minutes to make; they change over the course of the hunt, making any one chart less than illuminating; I'm not at all sure they tell me anything at all; I have to wait until I locate both foxii before I can make them, so I won't accidentally learn the QRG of the foxii. Does anybody else want to continue these? I get feedback periodically on the other maps I make, and/or I personally like them. But for these, I'm not so sure. Well played for both foxii last nite... WD4CFN 80M Preliminary Log

Thanks to everyone! Signals were pretty good at the beginning of the hunt, and I was able to get some west coast hounds. The band started dropping and got noisier. I switched to the beverage. I was on 3.564.30 Mhz the whole time and went simplex around 0255z. I am sorry I just couldn't pullout Steve's, K9TA, state right at the end. I had an 80W hound that I have pulled out of the log. Let me know of any errors in the log. Thanks again to everyone. 72, Steve WD4CFN Time Call RSTRcvd QTH Name Pwr 0201 KZ5J 559 TX PAT 5 0202 KK5LD 599 TX DAN 5 0202 K4BAI 599 GA JOHN 5 0203 KK4BNC 599 GA RANDY 5 0204 K4PQC 559 GA PHIL 5 0205 KT0AA 599 MO TONY 5 0206 NC4RT 579 NC RANDY 5 0207 K9CW 599 IL DREW 5 0208 W5AJD 559 LA JERRY 5 0208 ND4U 599 TN DEN 5 0209 ND4K 599 GA DAVE 5 0210 AC0BQ 569 KS JOHN 5 0211 WA9CW 559 WI TOM 5 0212 KO4VW 559 GA STEVE 5 0212 K2TW 579 VA TOM 5 0214 W1FMR 559 FL JIM 5 0215 W9XU 559 WI LON 5 0216 W9OD 559 WI CRAIG 5 0217 K0LOA 559 TX DWAIN 5 0219 N9WKE 559 IL BRUCE 5 0220 N2RK 599 NY JACK 5 0220 N4KV 579 AL JOHN 5 0221 WC7S 559 WY DALE 5 0222 NN4K 559 GA MAC 5 0223 K9DRP 599 IL DON 5 0224 NK9G 559 WI RICK 5 0225 NO2D 559 CO PETER 5 0226 N9NE 579 WI TODD 5 0228 N0YJ 559 KS BERT 5 0229 K9IUA 559 IA KEVIN 5 0229 N2TNN 559 VA DEAN 5 0230 WX2S 559 NJ STEVE 5 0232 N8SS 599 MI EARL 5 0233 N4MJ 599 TN GLENN 5 0234 K2SJB 559 NY DAVE 5 0235 WO9B 559 WI MIKE 5 0239 WB8QZM 559 TX BRIAN 5 0240 K7IOL 559 TX JIM 5 0241 K2ZC 559 NJ DAVE 5 0243 WA4ZOF 559 GA TOM 5 0244 AK3X 559 MD PETER 5 0246 AK1P 559 NH PAUL 5 0247 WQ0N 559 MN RUSS 5 0249 K6XR 559 CA MAC 5 0250 N0AR 559 MN SCOTT 5 0252 W1XV 559 NH BRAD 5 0257 W2SH 559 NJ CHAS 5 0304 K7GO 559 MT LEW 5 0307 WB9HFK 559 IL MARK 5 0308 K3PH 559 PA BOB 5 0314 K3UT 559 GA PHIL 5 0323 N9FZ 559 GA CAINAN 5 330 FOX N1IX NH DAVE 5W 330 FOX WD4CFN TN STEVE 5W

N1IX preliminary log 80M hunt 3/7

I was on 3552 for the entire hunt went simplex after about fifty minutes. Lots of QRN and static crashes from nearby rainstorm. A tough night. I was hoping for some west coast hounds. Please let me know if there are any corrections. 72 Dave N1IX 0200 WX2S 559 NJ STEVE 5W 0201 W1XV 559 NH BRAD 5 0201 K2ZC 559 NJ DAVE 5W 0202 W9XU 559 WI LON 5W 0203 NC4RT 559 NC RANDY 5W 0203 K2TW 559 VA TOM 5 0204 N9NE 559 WI TODD 5W 0204 NX1K 559 MA MARK 5W 0205 VE3NFK 559 ON JOHN 5W 0206 W2SH 559 NJ CHAS 5W 0207 WA9CW 559 WI TOM 5W 0208 AK3X 559 MD PETER 5W 0208 N2RK 559 NY JACK 5W 0209 AK1P 559 NH PAUL 5W 0210 K9CW 559 IL DREW 5W 0210 ND4K 559 GA DAVE 5W 0211 W9OD 559 WI CRAIG 5W 0213 N8SS 559 MI EARL 5W 0213 K4BAI 559 GA JOHN 5W 0214 KK5LD 559 TX DAN 5W 0215 KT0AA 559 MO TONY 5 0215 K2SJB 559 NY DAVE 5W 0216 N2TNN 559 VA DEAN 5 0217 K9IUA 559 IA KEVIN 5W 0218 K9DRP 559 IL DON 5W 0219 W1FMR 559 FL JIM 5 0220 K4PQC 559 GA PHIL 5W 0221 KO4VW 559 GA STEVE 5W 0222 ND4U 559 TN DEN 5 0223 KK4BNC 559 GA RANDY 5W 0225 N9WKE 559 IL BRUCE 5W 0226 NK9G 559 WI RICK 5W 0228 N4MJ 559 TN GLENN 5W 0228 N4KV 559 AL JOHN 5W 0229 NN4K 559 GA MAC 5W 0230 WQ0N 559 MN RUSS 5W 0232 N0YJ 559 KS BERT 5W 0233 WO9B 559 WI MIKE 5 0234 NO2D 559 CO PETER 5W 0242 VE3NFK 559 ON JOHN 2W 0245 VE9QR 559 NB BRACE 5 0300 K0LOA 559 TX DWAIN 5W 0302 N0AR 559 MN SCOTT 5W 0305 WA4GOF 559 GA TOM 5W 0305 WB9HFK 559 IL MARK 5W 0306 K3PH 559 PA BOB 5W 0309 WA4ZOF 559 GA TOM 5W 0317 K7GO 559 MT LEW 5W 0326 KC1FB 559 CT JIM 5W FOX WD4CFN xxx STEVE 5W FOX N1IX xxx DAVE 5W

Tuesday 3/12
Well-family schedule has struck again. I¡¯ll have to line up a sub for my shift next Tuesday on 40. Also to be honest I wasn¡¯t looking forward to this as with DST kicking in on Sunday my entire shift would be in daylight which is a prescription for a less than optimal outcome on 40 especially given my northern latitude. Local sunset will be at 02:20 UTC and being further north total darkness won¡¯t be for a while later. Local noise generally decreases a lot by around 03:30-0400 and then 40 becomes a nice band into the Midwest and east coast while still having good short hops. Hopefully see you all on 20 in the summer. Thanks. Dan Presley 503-701-3871 danpresley@me. com N7CQR@...
