Twofer on the gulf coast
Hi gang, Think I got a twofer last night. At least the foxii were far enough away that I could hear 'em. Put up a quicky attic doublet yesterday. The hunt was its first test. Hadn't gotten anything back up in the air after Ivan 'til then. Took all of my wire down for the storm. Good thing too, the eye passed directly over the house . . . Don't know if AJ4AY has put back any wire yet. I know he is aiming to. I haven't been on the air much lately, but I take it that 40 is getting longer and longer and longer. Hope to see all of you in the hunts! Take care es ttul dave ab9ca

1st Hunt

Hi Gang, My first hunt, ever, K2 with 5w CF Zepp at 25ft. I thought it strange hearing CQ FOX from W0IS, then learned later he was substitute for W5KDJ. Got Brer Fox Rick early on through a nice pileup. Never heard Brer Fox Lloyd due to his being too close to my SC QTH. Never even heard a likely pileup trying to work K3ESE. Hmmm Then the Sweepstakes practice started. Man those guys were loud in the K2 rcvr. 73, de Joe, aa4nn

N0IT Fox post for tonight
2
I'm posting this for Dave... Just a reminder that NK6A (Don) and I, N0IT (Dave in MO) will be your foxii tonight. The hunt will begin at 0200z on November 12 (8 pm Central Nov 11). You are likely to find us somewhere within plus or minus ten 10 khz of 7040. At the beginning of the hunt I will be listening up around 700 hz or higher and will be listening closer to my frequency as the pileup subsides. As usual the exchange is RST, State, Name, and Pwr. For more info see: http://www.cqc.org/fox/ I will be using Kenwood TS-940S at 5 watts into my trusty Butternut HF2V vertical. Even if conditions stink, come out and join the fun. HF can often be very unpredictable. See you tonight. 73 de Dave, N0IT __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Check out the new Yahoo! Front Page. www.yahoo.com

Go Great Lakers Go
I will not be able to take part in the hunt tonight as I am at work. VE3XT is president of our local radio club, and it is meeting night tonight, so he might be on near the end of the hunt. I will look for you all next week when I am on dayshift. I am in the process of getting the rig and antennas set up on the truck, so I can take part in the hunts from work when I get time. Good Luck Fred VE3Fal Great Lakers Fox Hunt Team

hn3bvd ?
I've been doing more operating this fall, getting back into QRP a little bit. Tonight I realized it was Thursday, Fox Hunt night! And I looked up the webpage on google to see what the schedule was. I fired up my CW Howes 40 mtr, direct conversion rig right at 0200. Soon I located Don NK6A near 7042. I listened closely, called many times, and was rewarded with a pelt! Alright! Now to find Dave. I wandered between 7030 and 7050 so many times I cannot remember. I tried it with other receivers, only to conclude that the Howes was actually doing a pretty good job. There just wasn't much to hear. Sometimes I would get little snippets, as if the whole world were talking but I was under a radio-blanket-cloud. I heard a YY1 calling CQ, and an XE1 came in gangbusters for a minute or two. I would get someone from 6-land or from 4-land for a little bit. Toward the end I could hear Don NK6A still calling CQ FOX, with no takers. At 0355, a ghostly signal arose in the neighborhood of 7035. hn3bvd ? I heard him send it a halfdozen times, getting a little piece each time. I looked in my country list in the back of my logbook. HN3 is Iraq? could it be? My pitiful 4 watts (on a good day) is not going to make it to Iraq. But I switched the T/R and sent my call a few times. When I switched back, he was gone. Nothing but static. Chris kc0atc

Dead Receiver?
2
I moved my QRP rig from the workshop to my office/computer room and re-installed my antenna in the attic. Transmitter tunes into the antenna beautifully...near 1:1 SWR but I can't hear a thing! Did my receiver die or is the solar storm flattening 40m?? =Lou W8LI=
