Glenn -noise
Thanks Glenn for the comments. The noise doesn¡¯t appear to be the usual electronic hash as far as I can tell as it will come and go as a steady S-7-9 over the entire 40M band. It¡¯s clearly not the typical spike type from switching supplies for instance. I have a rotatable loop that is designed to null out noise from a particular source and it¡¯s not picking up anything definite. Some nights it¡¯s S3 so definitely not consistent. Other bands are pretty quiet so will take some investigation. And I need to find a time to shut down power at my place to eliminate the possibility of something in house. No new appliances lights etc to affect anything so harder to track. Could be power lines but in the past that¡¯s affected numerous bands which isn¡¯t the case here.
In regards to the chaos and my signal strength,I find it interesting that apparently many operators couldn¡¯t hear me announcing¡¯up-up¡¯ repeatedly to make sure they¡¯re not camping on my xmit frequency. Either they could hear me,or not. Makes me wonder¡ Dan Presley 503-701-3871 danpresley@me. com N7CQR@... |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGood morning Dan. I can't figure this one out, because one would think that NO HOUND would call the fox in the blind, no hound would transmit without at least hearing the fox, and no hound would deliberately call on top of the FOX.? The only thing I can imagine is that one hound didn't hear you say UP and decided that you were already simplex.? So that hound started calling on simplex, and others joined in.? I believe I picked out at least 3 call signs.? I did hear you send UP a few times - once the hounds calling you on simplex died down.? ? ¿ªÔÆÌåÓý?I use a similar system-my K4D with 2 receivers and band scopes. I keep a low volume on my transmit frequency plus look to see if there¡¯s someone (usually a station calling CQ without sending QRL!) or a hunter on my frequency-who I¡¯ll ignore unless I state ?¡®simplex¡¯. Most likely due to the high noise level I didn¡¯t hear or see anything with the exception of a station trying to use the frequency, who I managed to chase off sending¡¯QRL¡¯ -frequency in use. As I mentioned earlier the only two stations I worked not split were the last two callers, and one thought I was POTA. ?And I believe some stations weren¡¯t copying me well enough to hear ¡®up-up¡¯ on every CQ. If folks look back at the emails, I sent one during the middle of the hunt telling folks to slow down and call up due to the high noise levels ?So it goes-we¡¯ll see what happens next time and see who pays attention.?
