N2TNN Preliminary Fox log Thurday 1.17.25

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Well, that was an adventure. There were many things learned tonight. I will be better next time around. Started off great and there were hounds on top of hounds all blasting in. Suddenly at 0300 everything stopped. I thought the loop came down so I switched to the EFHW and still nothing. About 0314 the calls started coming in again and I went simplex to grab a few more. Lee came out of WY at the 0330 mark to get me 50.

Let me know of any corrections and please send me comments and ideas how I can improve.

Steve,

Thanks again for all your help, That was a major pile up and some were really loud. I have to be quicker on the call sign input. I am going to try typing as it comes in not writing it down.

Another thing for the check list is to set the tuning rate to fine.

Dean

Nice job last night Dean.? Slow and steady wins the race too.? Even though you weren't jamming at 30wpm?you still started running out of stations to work after 60 minutes.

Automation is the key to keeping rate up and eliminating logging errors.? A contest logger fits the bill perfectly.? Hit the F1 button and the computer sends a perfect?CQ.? Type in the first call you copy and hit return again and it sends 559 MI EARL 5W.? ?Type in the received exchange and hit the return again to log it and send the QRZ message to do it all over again.? Reach over and hit the paddles to ask for a fill on part of the exchange or to say hi to an old friend you just worked. dit dit.

I also keep a pad of paper handy to make notes or write corrections that are easier to enter in after the event but there usually isn't much written on it by the end of the run but sometimes I get jammed up and it is easier to jot it down and fix it later.

Your configuration will dictate what works best for you.? My equipment is old enough that it predates the modern internet so I have some hassles in interfacing radios and getting my data out and into an email to send to the group, but it is pretty seamless during the run.

Regardless of your equipment you need to practice.? A good pileup simulator or copies of the pileup competition recordings from Dayton are a good warmup prior to a fox run.? You can google these and enjoy the frustration of practicing with them.? On some of those Dayton pileup competitions I would copy 25 callsigns while the winner would be in the 80-100 range.

Welcome to the Fox ranks.

To add to Earl's comment about practice, look at the "revised" morse runner at:?.? There is an installation link in the 1st line of the readme.
This version of Morse runner?has a selection for the SST contest, which would not only give you call sign/data entry practice, but also give you name and state exchange practice.? It's not in the order we do it, but it is still good keyboarding practice and will simulate a pileup.? You can set the speed in Morse runner faster than you typically hear in the actual SST.?

Well, that was an adventure. There were many things learned tonight. I will be better next time around. Started off great and there were hounds on top of hounds all blasting in. Suddenly at 0300 everything stopped. I thought the loop came down so I switched to the EFHW and still nothing. About 0314 the calls started coming in again and I went simplex to grab a few more. Lee came out of WY at the 0330 mark to get me 50.

Let me know of any corrections and please send me comments and ideas how I can improve.
