President Dave VE3OX opened the meeting at 7:08pm and welcomed those in the hall and on Zoom.
we had a moment of silence in honour of Richard.
Approval of the minutes from March meeting. Motion by Bob VE3QWB to accept minutes of the March meeting as printed in the recent newsletter.
Seconded by Gary VA3GPK.? ? Carried.
Our treasurer Allan is not at the meeting so we have no treasurer's report. Repeater updates:
VE3QAR. We are still looking for a new location. The Sea Cadet building is still an option, but a repeater
operating here might limit the use of the UHF band for the Cadets.
VE3RTR. Xplore internet was installed last Wednesday. Hookup was completed on Saturday.Brian VE3HQR says it is working fine.
VE3KFR. Still has low power output. Brian VE3HQR has an amplifier at home but Will VA3JWO said there?might be a problem.? Work continues.
VE3TJU. The county will be selling the site, no details available yet, but the Prince Edward Radio Club might have to move the repeater.
Elections in May. Tim VE3UO, being the current Past President, is chair of the nominations committee for club?elections next month. He said we will be looking for a new president and a new secretary, maybe other?executives
as well. Current President Dave VE3OX and Secretary Bob VE3QWB are stepping down but will?mentor the new President and Secretary. Anyone who wants to help by volunteering themselves or nominate?someone
else to have their names stand in the election, contact Tim or any of the directors.
Field Day. Bob VA3ACE is working on permission to hold field day at CFB Mountain View, hopefully this year and next. Bob was on Zoom and informed us he was told there is a unit that uses the base on weekends so thanks for?the interest, but we can not use it. Dave will contact the car club.? ???After the field day event, RAC will be holding?it's Canada Day Contest.? ?? Buffalo Aircraft event update.
Dave sent an email to the Air Museum in Trenton? about setting up for the event?and testing. Club members will be using the Buffalo aircraft's?antenna
on July 22 and special event?callsign? VC3BUFF456
Tomorrow, April 18, is World Amateur Radio Day. There should be lots of activities on HF bands. RAC is planning special event stations in all provinces and territories. There will also be a station VA3RHQ operating from RAC headquarters. Gary VA3GPK volunteered to sell 50/50 tickets. The winner of $ 22 was Dave VE3OX. Congratulations?Dave and thanks Gary. It's been a long time since we held one of these draws.
Dave then asked Don Shears VE3UHO to talk about the project he had for Show&Tell, a Dim Bulb Tester.
He refurbishes old radios and built it to test them, including one that had no fuses in it.
Thanks Don, that was interesting.
Then Dave asked Matthew VE3ZQW to give us an update on the Sea Cadets regarding amateur radio.?Matthew started by thanking the club for helping with the Fern Blodgett Sunde statue rededication?in
Cobourg on April 2, 2023? ?.? Some of her family came from Norway
for the event. Some cadets were on the air and made 32 contacts including Tennessee and Georgia.?They have since received a Thank You from the town of Cobourg for participating. He went on to?mention
there are now eleven cadet amateur stations across Canada and there are 70 students in
their current course which is about to end, they will be taking their tests soon. Training for all Canadian?Sea Cadets is being revamped and Amateur Radio will become part of it. Thanks Matthew for bringing?us
up-to-date and supporting Amateur Radio.
Dave said that was the end of his agenda, did anyone have anything they wanted to bring up.
Nobody did, so Dave closed the meeting at 8:24?
