Update re June/July prints

Hi folks,

After 16 days of sunny, dry and hot (highs in the 90-100F range) weather on my road trip through Washington I flew back to Alaska last Sunday evening.? While it is certainly good to be home, I already really miss that summer weather.

I was surprised when Kathleen told me that no prints had been delivered here while I was away.? Nara's DHL package from India with the prints from himself, Jayanand and S. Prabhakaran arrived a couple days ago.

I'm still waiting for the prints from three US participants (Tom, Westley & Josh).? I hope they are already in the mail and have not been lost in transit to Alaska.? Once their prints arrive I'll get all the prints sorted, packed up and mailed back to you ASAP.

I will post the signup for the August/September print exchanges in the next day or so.

Gary

Hi folks,

I dropped off all the mailers/boxes of prints at the local post office this afternoon, so US participants should receive their prints later this week.?

I think the box to India is taking 12-14 days to be delivered.

Gary

Thanks, Gary!

Cheers

Gary,

Got my prints today. Three days from Alaska to Minneapolis is impressive for the Post Office.

There is really solid work in this exchange, both color and B&W. ?But, please put your name on your spec sheet or at least sign your work so we know who deserves the accolades!

Another great set of prints arrived in my mailbox a few days ago. Several of them stood out in a pretty solid crowd.
?
* Rick’s color Echinopsis prints, along with his BW Aeonium print, were Rhonda’s favorites. Unfortunately she is now asking me to learn about focus stacking…
?
* Robert’s Color Iris print was also exceptional.
?
* Jeff’s Green Heron is simply stunning, worthy of an upscale birding guide.
?
* At first I was not overly impressed with Jayanand’s Flower Bazaar print, but once I took it out of the sleeve and held it under my bright proofing lamp the shadow detail came alive. What a difference! I guess the lesson is that - as always - lighting is critical, both to the taking and the viewing. Superb image.
?
* Lastly, Nara’s Mystic Beast struck a nostalgic chord. On my (only) trip to India in 1985 I spend a day and a night in Khajuraho, and was overwhelmed by the intricately carved temples there. I shot several rolls of Kodachrome on my old Leica, including several photos of the same lion and the man statue. I may need to go back and see if any of those old images are worth scanning and printing - though I’ll confess that the majority of them were of erotic carvings that may not be exchange-appropriate :)
?
Thanks everyone for all the wonderful prints, and special thanks to Gary for making it all come together!

Stephen,
Thanks for the kind words.

As an aside, my submissions are always printed to be looked at in normal daylight, because that is the only light source that is exactly the same for everyone! Which is also the reason why I love to distribute and exhibit prints - because, in that case, every viewer sees exactly the same image in every way, as intended by me!

I am planning to submit another image from the Flower Bazaar in the? current round, but in colour, unless, of course, something better pops up before I start printing!

Cheers
Jayanand

Steven: Please thank Rhonda for the kind words.? Focus stacking either in-camera ("focus shift" in Nikon parlance) or tethered to a computer is not hard.? Helicon Remote and Helicon Focus are my current goto apps for this technique.

Of course, as usual there were several excellent prints.? I enjoy seeing the world through the other participants eyes.
