Re: Reminder: Oct/Nov Bi-Monthly Print Exchanges
Thanks Mike. Your prints were delivered to our doorstep last Friday and my neighbor picked them up for me. I received the prints from Nara and Jayanand a couple days before I flew to Seattle on the 13th. ?Tom’s prints probably arrived via USPS while I’ve been here in Washington and will be delivered today.
Unfortunately, I had to delay my flight back to Alaska from last Saturday to this Tuesday evening (tomorrow), so I won’t be able to get started on sorting, repackaging and mailing the prints back until Wednesday. ?I will get them in the mail to all of you this week. Gary |
Re: Reminder: Oct/Nov Bi-Monthly Print Exchanges
Hi Gary, I am going to courier my prints tomorrow. Should be with you Friday, based on past experience. I've included 3 prints, all I had time to do. They are from a trip to Chelsea Flower show in September with the GFX100s. First time I've been really shooting with it, and first time since Covid that I have exposed myself to such a crowded event. Very target rich environment, and most of the targets are not flowers or people! A dull day so well suited to the mirrorless in body stabilization - which is stunning in practice as I am sure those of you with mirrorless bodies are finding out way before me. I am loving the ability to print large from 100mp or crop and still print A4/A3?@ 300 ppi Since participants are the same for both exchanges and two of my prints could be classified as B&W or colour - I am leaving them unclassified. Hope you all enjoy the prints and I still have many to make from that trip - so more next time, hopefully with some paper variation. Thanks once again for managing the exchange. Reminder: Oct/Nov Bi-Monthly Print Exchanges
Hi folks,
I meant to send this note out earlier this week.? Please send your Oct/Nov prints soon if you haven't already.? I have 3 sets of prints in hand (myself, Otto and Rob) and I received a DHL notice that the prints from Nara and Jayanand are on the way here to Alaska.? I will be away from the 13th thru the 20th.? Hopefully all the prints will be here when I get back home so I can re-package and get them mailed back to you soon thereafter. Gary |
Re: Q3 Prints
I agree. I always take them out to see the print, as one of my primary interests is matching images to paper! FINAL Lists for the Oct/Nov Bi-Monthly Print Exchanges
开云体育We have 8 people signed up for the first bi-monthly B&W and Color exchanges.? ? As I requested, please send your prints to me so they will arrive here in Alaska by November 20th, if you can.? I would like to have the prints mailed back and in your hands before I post the sign up for the next print exchange on December 1st. ? I will send in two sets (at least) of B&W and color prints for each bi-monthly print exchange, just as if we were still having monthly print exchanges.? Thanks to all of you who have sent and continue to send in multiple sets of prints. ? Let me know if you have any questions. ? I think all of the prints should be taken out of the protective sleeves to really appreciate them, but this is especially so for some prints on unique paper.? Mike's 3Q B&W print is absolutely one of those which must be removed from the sleeve to fully appreciate it.? Once I've carefully removed Mike's prints from those sleeves with sealed flaps, the next thing I do is cut off the flap so I can more easily remove the print the next time I want to view it.

Re: Q3 Prints
Jayanand & Nara: I mailed your prints on Saturday and they left Anchorage on Sunday (Oct 3).? I just checked the USPS tracking.? The package left the USPS San Francisco International Distribution Center today (Oct 7) at 6:06am.? Hopefully, you will receive the prints sometime next week.? The 3Q prints will be worth the wait!

Re: Q3 Prints
Stephen, thanks for the kind words. I would recommend taking my B&W photo (the yellow tinted one) out of the plastic envelope. I found that printing it on the fine textured paper gave it more depth, more of a 3D look, than a smoother paper I tested. I am not going to get the prints back from this exchange for a while,? but all the positive comments are making me think again about delaying shipment to combine with the next exchange. Whenever I receive them it looks like they are going to be a great set. Best, Mike On Thu, 7 Oct 2021 at 06:10, Stephen Mustoe <smustoe@...> wrote: Wow! Re: SIGNUP IS OPEN for the OCT/NOV 2021 Bi-Monthly Print Exchange
As much as I'd like to participate, I will be traveling or hosting family for most of October & November - - lots of pent-up family commitments - - and I will not be able to participate.? However, I have begun getting out to shoot again and I should have plenty of material to choose from for the next round.? Thanks.

Re: FINAL UPDATE on the Third Quarter 2021 Print Exchanges
Gary, I am glad you enjoyed the experimentation. It actually arose with my boredom and the lack of creativity exhibited in 99.99% of the macro images that I found myself photographing, while being confined to our gated community during the second wave. The fact is that I do not "see" traditional macro compositions well, that is all there is to it! As an aside, I just got the Nikon Z 105mm f2.8S macro, a few weeks ago, mainly because I like that focal length, and the close focusing is a big asset, and it is a breathtakingly spectacular lens - IMHO, the best of the uniformly excellent Z series lenses. Definitely the equal of the Zeiss 100mm Makro Planar, at a fraction of the price and weight, and superior in every way to the Leica R 100mm APO Macro Elmarit, which I also own, converted to a Nikon F mount by Leitax. It makes for a great portrait lens as well, but is so sharp that some post processing smoothing of skin blemishes would be required at times. Highly recommended. I tend to use Washi paper for images that are largely mid tone, they work best for that tonal range. They work reasonably well with high key images, but are awful and muddy with low key images, or those with blocky, deep shadows. I am afraid they are not great for opening up shadow detail. I am planning to submit prints of another photographic experiment,
of a different type, in the next colour exchange! Cheers Jayanand On Sat, Oct 2, 2021 at 3:39 AM Gary <bensonga@...> wrote: Hi everyone.? I’ve mailed all of the packages with 3Q prints out to participants in the US today, so you should receive them sometime next week. |
SIGNUP IS OPEN for the OCT/NOV 2021 Bi-Monthly Print Exchange
开云体育Hi folks, As discussed, we are moving to a bi-monthly print exchange schedule beginning with this October/November exchange.? I know many of us are looking forward to sharing and seeing each other's prints more frequently than the quarterly schedule allowed. If you would like to participate in the B&W and/or Color print exchanges, please respond by email or post to the group.?? Signup will close on October 7th and I will post the final lists on October 8th.? By closing the signup a week earlier we won't have to wait until mid-month to know the final count and number of prints to make.? I hope that some of you can use that extra week to get a head start on selecting and printing your images when possible. I would like to receive your prints no than November 20th.? I would like to get them sorted, packaged and mailed back to you well before the end of the month.? My goal is to have the prints in your hands before the signup opens for the next print exchange, whenever possible. The following photographers have already signed up for the Black & White exchange:
The following photographers have already signed up for the Color print exchange:
I want to thank Otto for joining the group of regular participants who sign up automatically for both the B&W and Color exchanges. ? Dicon will be traveling again this fall and winter so he is out for now.? I'm sure he will find more interesting photos to take on his travels to print and share with us next spring/summer.? ? Please ship your prints for repackaging to: Gary Benson 9843 Little Diomede Circle Eagle River, Alaska 99577 ? TO SUCCESSFULLY PARTICIPATE PLEASE READ ALL OF THE GUIDELINES BELOW =================================================================== 1) Prints are to be on either Letter (8.5x11) or A4 (8.3"x11.7") size paper. Please sign the print (generally done on the front).? 2) On about the 15th of the month you will be notified of how many participants there are for each exchange.? You are to print one print for each of the other participants and one for yourself.? 3) Prints should be enclosed in individual clear sleeves (for example Clear Bags B811SNF) along with a Tech Sheet. Include the date of the exchange, your name, print title and any information about the subject matter, printer, inkset, software, workflow etc on the Tech Sheet which may be of interest to other participants.? Optional: also include your own?critique?of your image.? 4) Make sure that whatever return box or mailing method you use can accommodate both Letter (8.5x11) and A4 (8.3"x11.7") sized prints.??The total number of prints submitted is likely be greater than for the prior monthly print exchanges, so for those participants in the USA a USPS Flat Rate Medium size box is probably the best choice, especially if you are participating in both the B&W and Color print exchanges. ?5) For example, mailing your prints (addressed to the print exchange coordinator) in a USPS Flat Rate envelope or medium size box with an enclosed prepaid USPS Click-n-Ship return label for a Flat Rate Medium size box (addressed to yourself)?should work?very well. ?See this message for additional details?and images of how others have packaged their prints. 6) If you have not included a return postage pre-paid label please send the print exchange coordinator $15 for the cost of a USPS Flat Rate Medium size box attached to a sheet of paper which?clearly?shows your return address.? 7) Upload a file of the image you have printed into the?correct photo album.? It permits those that are not actively participating in the current exchange an opportunity to observe.? It also creates a historical record that is useful over the years.? 8) Comments on prints are welcome and encouraged, but are not required for participation in a print exchange.? Any topic or theme for a print exchange is entirely optional. With best regards, Gary Benson one of the print exchange moderators bensonga@... ? |
