Jeff Deam's Bird Photos
I think many of you will enjoy and be as impressed as I am with Jeff's photos of birds and the documentation/organization of his many bird photos.
Check out his Flickr site: As you could also see in his photos/prints in the June/July color exchange from the Mt. Baker/Snoqualmie National Forest and early print exchanges, he is very good at taking landscape photos too. Gary |

Re: Introduction, Jeff Deam
开云体育HI Jeff-Welcome aboard. There are several really excellent bird photographers here (I’m not one of them…I get lots of BBBs - brown bird butts) and I’m sure you will learn a lot from them…though having a good knowledge of birds puts you in a great position to make winners. The technical stuff will come pretty quickly as you print more.

USPS Flat Rate Mailers - Priority Mail vs Priority Mail EXPRESS
Just a reminder that there is a significant price difference between these two USPS flat rate mailing envelopes. ? Please don’t attach a Priority Mail flat rate prepaid mailing label (currently $8.95) to a Priority Mail EXPRESS envelope. ?There will be an additional $18 in postage due if you use a Priority Mail EXPRESS flat rate mailer but only paid for the regular Priority Mail flat rate. The EXPRESS flat rate envelope is a distinctive BLUE and white while the regular Priority Mail flat rate envelope is RED, white and blue. |

Re: Nice batch of prints
开云体育Welcome, Rick. You’re in the right place…the semi-monthly print package has been consistently great for the last couple of years. We started out trying to teach each other and ourselves how to print - especially BW which was harder on printers than color at the time — and have progressed along the line of improvement over the 20 years.? Looked at your website (and want to go back and spend more time on it). What a terrific body of work…looking forward to seeing more of it and holding your prints. Cheers,

Nice batch of prints
Rick Holmes
Hi all, This is my first involvement with the exchange.? Wow! What a nice batch of prints!? I love the variety and super quality. As a newcomer, I want to introduce myself. I live in southern Nevada USA. I'm a retired computer systems analyst - primarily software.? I've? been doing photography for several decades.? I got caught in the Nikon track when my father gave me his Ftn and am currently with the Z7ii.? I also like playing with pinhole cameras.? I can process my own C41 film with a Jobo CP3 but don't do it very often these days. Before digital I did my own wet darkroom printing? Now I primarily use Epson desktop printers and Photoshop. And Pixel Genius Photokit plugins.? And Nik and Topaz and ....? I especially enjoy nature/landscapes, macro and flower photography.? I have a small cactus and succulent greenhouse which provides flowers for the studio.? I like doing birefringent crystals under a microscope also. My unorganized, eclectic website is at rickholmesphotos.com . Thanks for having me as part of the group! Rick? |

What to do now...
Hi folks,
As you may have seen, I created a Photos folder for the Aug/Sept print exchanges.? So, just a few days after I posted the exchange signup and before we have even finalized the lists, I've selected my images, printed them and uploaded small JPG versions.? I've even created and printed the data sheets (which I usually put off for later). Now what?? I suppose I could go out and take a few new photos, something I rarely do anymore.? It has been difficult for me to get motivated to do that when most of the places/things I find interesting here are either gone or now posted with "No Trespassing" signs.? :-( Gary |

JUNE/JULY Prints Shipping Today
Hi folks,
I am heading to the Anchorage airport post office this afternoon to drop off the USPS mailers/boxes for all US residents plus Jayanand and Nara in India. Mike -- I'll box up your prints this evening and send you an email with the weight and dimensions of the box so you an arrange for a DHL pickup in the next few days.? Here is a quick summary of the prints submitted for the June/July exchanges: B&W:? 13 participants submitted a total of 18 prints Color:? 11 participants submitted a total of 16 prints For those who participated in both print exchanges, you'll have 34 prints to view, enjoy and add to your print collections. As always, there was a wide variety in the subjects/images that people chose to print.? There are some very fine landscapes, wildlife, portraits, architecture and other unusual subjects (Rick's composite of a total solar eclipse for example).? For the first time in quite awhile, we can see previews of the images in the Photos folder for this print exchange.? I have been remiss in not creating the Photo folder or in posting my own images in the past.? My thanks to Josh Daniels for asking about it and prompting me to create the Photo folder.? I'll continue to do that for future print exchanges.? It is unfortunate that the quality of the photos displayed by Groups.io is not higher and this is despite the fact that I'm sure quality of photos uploaded was in many cases much higher than displayed by Groups.io.? I'll see if there is a setting in Groups.io which would allow us to see higher resolution versions of the photos that have been uploaded.? I may check with Jim Coffee, an expert on Groups.io and a former print exchange coordinator. Thanks again to everyone who participated in these exchanges.? I look forward to seeing your prints for the August/September exchange. Gary |

Re: QTR and ABW testing…
This morning I realized that when I mailed the April/May B&W prints I forgot to send the QTR version of a print that I offered to include for anyone who was interested.? If my notes are correct, Jayanand and Westley had requested one.? I'll include it with their June/July prints.
Is there anyone else who requested one that I have missed? Gary |

SIGNUP is OPEN for the AUG/SEPT Bi-Monthly Print Exchanges
Hi folks, If you would like to participate in the August/September bi-monthly B&W and/or Color print exchanges (Letter/A4 size), please respond by email or post to the group.?? Signup will close on August 15th.? I will post the final lists on the 16th. Please ship your prints so they arrive in Alaska no later than the last week of September. The following photographers are currently signed up for the Black & White exchange:
The following photographers are currently signed up for the Color print exchange:
Please ship your prints for repackaging to: Gary Benson ? TO SUCCESSFULLY PARTICIPATE PLEASE READ ALL OF THE GUIDELINES BELOW =================================================================== 1) Prints are to be on either Letter (8.5x11) or A4 (8.3"x11.7") size paper. Please sign the print (generally done on the front).? 2) On about the 15th of the month you will be notified of how many participants there are for each exchange.? You are to print one print for each of the other participants and one for yourself.? 3) Prints should be enclosed in individual clear sleeves (for example Clear Bags B811SNF) along with a Tech Sheet. Include the date of the exchange, your name, print title and any information about the subject matter, printer, inkset, software, workflow etc on the Tech Sheet which may be of interest to other participants.? Optional: also include your own?critique?of your image.? 4) Make sure that whatever return box or mailing method you use can accommodate both Letter (8.5x11) and A4 (8.3"x11.7") sized prints.??The total number of prints submitted is likely be greater than for the prior monthly print exchanges, so for those participants in the USA a USPS Flat Rate Medium size box is probably the best choice, especially if you are participating in both the B&W and Color print exchanges. ?5) For example, mailing your prints (addressed to the print exchange coordinator) in a USPS Flat Rate envelope or medium size box with an enclosed prepaid USPS Click-n-Ship return LABEL for a Flat Rate envelope or medium size box (addressed to yourself)?should work?very well. ?See this message for additional details?and images of how others have packaged their prints. 6) If you have not included a return postage pre-paid label please send the print exchange coordinator funds for the cost of a USPS Flat Rate envelope or medium size box (whichever you prefer to use) attached to a sheet of paper which?clearly?shows your return address.? 7) Upload a file of the image you have printed into the?correct photo album.? It permits those that are not actively participating in the current exchange an opportunity to observe.? It also creates a historical record that is useful over the years.? 8) Comments on prints are welcome and encouraged, but are not required for participation in a print exchange.? Any topic or theme for a print exchange is entirely optional. With best regards, Gary Benson one of the print exchange moderators |
