Re: Dec 2023/Jan 2024 Exchange

Edited

Thanks for your positive comments Steve.? I included that print in the exchange with you in mind, hoping I could find something you might like. It took me awhile to find a decent landscape photo that I've taken in the past 10+ years. Most of the photos I've taken are either of "boring" subjects or specific to motorsports etc.? In hindsight, I could blame it on the New Topographics, but in truth I was attracted to the mundane subjects before I even saw the book.

Dec 2023/Jan 2024 Exchange

I just returned from a month in Belize and found the latest exchange prints waiting for me. What a delightful welcome home gift! So many good images. Where to start¡
?
I have always been in awe of Gary¡¯s skill and mastery of the digital printing process. His sharing a collection of his superb black and white prints with me over fifteen years ago got me interested in printing and, subsequently, this exchange. While I do not always appreciate the images he chooses (I fear I made my esthetic biases clear in an earlier post) every so often one of his efforts really rings my bell. That is the case with his?Bird Point at Low Tide. I love it! And I¡¯m pretty sure I have taken in this vista, most likely on a motorcycle trip I took with him down Turnagain Arm to Hope many years ago. Excellent!
?
¸é´Ç²ú¡¯²õ?Manhattan?was a surprise - I had not expected such detail and tonality in a shot from an iPhone. The composition, perspective control, and color drew me in, a very striking image. It makes me want to start using my iPhone 13 Pro Max for something other than photos of our cat :)
?
¸é¾±³¦°ì¡¯²õ?Amaryllis Chico?is just the latest in his series of exquisite flower images that my wife wants to put on our wall. The mirror image flip technique really worked well.
?
´³´Ç²õ³ó¡¯²õ?Men Dancing?is a remarkable composition, a still image that conveys so much energy and action. Beautifully printed as well.
?
Before viewing Nara¡¯s?Dosai Amma?I was unaware of the history of the the dhobi ghats. His portrait is beautifully composed and lighted, and I love the look of concentration on the woman¡¯s face as she tends to the dosa. It makes me hungry for masala dosa, which I simply cannot find here in Eugene :( I really do need to get back to India, not just for the culture but for the food as well.?
?
¶Ù²¹±¹¾±»å¡¯²õ?Fish Bros Flats?caught my eye right away. I¡¯m sure I have passed this building when in Astoria but never paid it much attention. His subtle image made me look at it through new eyes. This was a print that absolutely had to be viewed outside the sleeve to be fully appreciated. An excellent printing job.
?
On a separate note, one of my own prints that I received back had the wrong data sheet in it, so I suspect one or more of you may have received a print of mine where the sheet made no sense. If so, let me know which image it was and I can let you know the real details.
?
Now to start working on my prints for the next exchange...

New Group Cover Photos Uploaded for February/March

Edited

I meant to update it earlier this month.? I hope more participants will upload photos they have printed to the Photos albums.? I would like to include a photo from each of you in future cover photo updates.

3) Prints should be enclosed in individual clear sleeves (for example Clear Bags B811SNF) along with a Tech Sheet. Hi folks,

Mike King asked if I could post the signup for the LARGE Feb/March print exchange now rather than waiting until February 1st.? Since this is a special exchange, I don't see any reason why I can't/shouldn't do it now.

There will still be REGULAR size Feb/March exchanges and I will post the signup for those exchanges on February 1st.

I have not assumed that everyone who participates in the regular exchanges wants to join the large exchange, but I have made a few assumptions based on past experience in putting together this initial list.? That said, I really want to encourage others to join this exchange.? Making and seeing the larger prints has been one of the highlights of the entire print exchange experience for me.

If anyone else would like to participate in the February/March B&W and/or Color LARGE print exchanges, please respond by email or post to the group.? While most prints will be in the 13x19 inch/A3 size, we are flexible on the size for the large print exchange.? Your prints must be larger than Letter/A4 and no larger that 13x19/A3.? In addition to 13x19, I have made prints on 12x12, 11x14 and 11x17 inch papers in the past for certain images.

I am posting the signup earlier than usual.? Signup will close on February 4th.? I will post the final lists on the 5th.?

Please ship your prints so they arrive in Alaska no later than the end of March.? My goal is to have the prints back in your hands in early April.

Re: Important Reminder: DEC 2023/ JAN 2024 B&W and Color Exchange Early Due Date

Have a great trip.

Gary,

Ok so they know they have no planes available but only cancel your flight at the last minute to limit your options to rebook with another airline!

Hope your trip finally happens.

and thanks as always for your efforts with the exchange,

Best,
Mike

Mike - Your prints were delivered at about 5pm.? Yay!

Yesterday Alaska Airlines cancelled our flight to Seattle that was to depart at midnight tonight (it was scheduled on a Boeing 737 Max 9).? We were able to get re-booked on a flight departing early Sunday morning.

So, I will be able to sort, pack and mailed the prints back to all of you today!? Mike - as requested, I'll hold onto your set of prints until the Feb/Mar large print exchange is completed.

I really appreciate the effort each of you made to get the prints to me earlier than usual, especially for those who ran into unexpected technical or other problems!
