Need Advice: SYSTEM Message Held notification
7
Hello Packet Radio SYSOPS, I'm looking forward to learning more about BPQ and becoming a better SYSOP by asking questions here that I can't find in the documentation. I'm trying to trouble shoot the following message. 9856 06-May PN 19 WW2BSA SYSTEM Message 9855 Held - Message too old While the notification itself is obvious, I can't seem to find where to go to correct this. There about 10 - 20 of these messages... 73 de Chris ww2bsa.nj.usa.noam

VE2PKT Upgraded

Hello SYSOP, VE2PKT BBS has upgraded from FBB to BPQ and many changes appened. If you forward with VE2PKT using telnet ve2pkt.dyndns.org port 6300, this is not valid anymore. you have to telnet ve2pkt.dydns.org port 23 or 2323 and then type BBS If you see VE2PKT in you node list, it should be reacheable directly from you node. I rebuid my forward parthners from and old list. Might have mist some of you, if that is the case, please send me a message on packet: va2om@ve2pkt.#trv.qc.can.noam or Email: ve2pkt@.... 73 de Jean VA2OM / VE2PKT

Welcome to packet-radio-sysops

Hi all, thanks for joining. Since this is a group for sysops handling traffic, I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread describing stations and their role. You can create/edit a post in this thread with your up to date info. Please invite your sysop friends. I'll go first: I have GB7RDG- general service 40m, VHF and UHF BPQ node with great take-off to all southerly azimuths from west Reading, Berkshire, UK. BPQ Mail is configured for mail forwarding around the UK, adapting the config to incorporate new areas/nodes as the network grows again, which it is doing at a rapid pace. My focus is on RF network expansion, so I tend to de-emphasise internet linking / traffic exchanging, using it only as a last resort if at all. Full details including frequencies / modes in use for each port are here: https://ukpacketradio.network/nodes:gb7rdg

Quality and Minqual settings
3
Hi all, Jeff KP3FT, sysop of BPQ and (X)Net nodes in upstate NY. I have a question regarding Quality settings. I've read through various docs, but still not quite clear on the subject. My main interest in Quality and Minqual, besides having correct configuration, is how to use it to limit the ridiculously long Node lists that get sent back from other stations. Or is that even possible? It's not a problem if someone is connected to a node via AXIP or Telnet, but sending a list of almost 1000 nodes over RF is crazy. It's almost crippling to a system having crazy long lists. So, if my node is RF-linked to a neighbor node that has AXIP links to many worldwide nodes, how do we both set Quality and Minqual to limit the length of the node list being sent to out to someone connected with RF? Thanks, 73

Greetings
Hi All, thanks to Tom M0LTE for seeing up this group. I'm keen to better understand Forwarding Rules and their impact. Details of my setup can me found on Tom's map https://nodes.ukpacketradio.network/packet-network-map.html Packet Node active 24/7 with RF active only when Sysop is in attendance Currently the only RF link is to GM3YEW-4 Frequency: 144.950 MHz 1200 baud AX.25 Packet mail region #79.GBR.EU Antenna: Diamond X510N Node running on a Pi 3B+ using pilinbpq Locator: IO86jp Sysop: Rolfe James, MM0RJJ Regards, Rolfe Ham Radio call sign MM0RJJ

20KB 7PLUS messages and HF
3
Hi all I've noticed some 20KB 7PLUS messages in the mail queue for GB7RDG, sent to 7PLUS@WW. These may well be problematic for those of us exchanging mail via HF. Currently have a bunch of 20kb messages sat in the outbound queues for multiple HF partners, totalling hundreds of kilobytes. What is others' experience to date? Should I filter these out? Is it possible to filter these out for HF partners but retain them for VHF/UHF partners? Cheers Tom

[bpq32] B2F or not B2F? Use B1F If Unsure.
---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Charles Hargrove <n2nov@...> Date: Thu, 14 Mar 2024 at 13:06 Subject: [bpq32] B2F or not B2F? Use B1F If Unsure. To: <[email protected]> This needs a reminder for the group, especially newbie systems. Unless your forwarding partner is WL2K or BPQ, do not automatically set their system as accepting B2F. All modern systems can do B1F, but not all can do B2F as this is reserved for encryption and file attachments. Otherwise, you will aborted connections with FBB errors.
