Not really as the nano doesn't have the frequency granularity when you consider the H only has 101 freq steps and the H4, 401 steps.

You'll probably miss the carriers completely.

Pick up a TinySA for something like that.

I recently ordered my first NanoVNA, an SAA-2N V2.2 from R&L Electronics (brand unknown). I haven't used a VNA in about 20 years (HP 8510) but I always wanted to have one as I found it to be a phenomenal tool.

YES SIR! Now it works! With your help I ended up installing the correct driver. STMicrologic and not the other! My 32-bit WIN 7 reads the nanovna well. Thanks to everyone who helped me A BIG THANKS!

It could be there is a mess with the usb drivers on your machine.
You may clean up all usb drivers with a tool called USBDeview

Hey no, it didn't install automatically, I had to install the driver manually. Hey there i cleaned the com ports and it still doesnt communicate with the program? Thanks for your help but I'll find out why? Thanks again...

I've fired up my Win7 64bit pc and connected the nanovna-H4 to the usb port (never had the nanovna connected to that win7 machine before).
It has installed the driver in 10secs (automatically from internet).
I've downloaded the latest nanovna-saver release and have fired it up.
It works..

Thanks for your good advice. I have cleaned my ports but it does not seem to read. I installed the driver for the usb port but it tells me that it is not able to read? But I am close to a good functioning. I set the one on UBUNTU by upgrading from 18 to 20. I just have my windows 7 left ...

You may try to clean up the list of the used COMs in Win7. I did it many times in past as it allocates many new COMs for the same devices upon connection and all the COMs are then hidden (but allocated). There are guides how to do it..

Yes I installed the new UBUNTU update. I went from 18.04 to 20.04.1 and now the program communicates with my NanoVNA Version 0.4.0 ... But it still does not communicate under WINDOWS 7. It mentions that another device uses the same com port? Yet I checked and there is no other device that uses com 3? Weird isn't it!

is your user in the dialout group? That is a frequent reason for USB serial devices (the nanoVNA) being unable to communicate. The port is recognised, but no communication is possible, because of permission issues.

A simple way of fixing this is to bring up a terminal, and then enter the line below, exactly as written (use copy and paste):

sudo adduser $USER dialout

The nanoVNA users list, at /g/nanovna-users is a better place to ask questions like this.

I use Intel® Pentium(R) CPU G2030 @ 3.00GHz × 2 with UBUNTU 18.04.5 LTS but the problem is not to connect UBUNTU recognise the nanovna port but doens't communicate? Jean,

1) if you are asking about NanoVNA Saver, then you may find the note that I wrote useful. It is at /g/nanovna-users/files/Nano%20VNA%20Saver/nanoVNA-H4%20software%20support%20under%20Ubuntu.pdf.

2) Do not start nanoVNA Saver as root. It runs fine as an ordinary user.

3) If you need more help, it's good to tell us a) what version of Ubuntu, b) the name of the program, c) what computer hardware is in use (there can be USB problems)

4) The most likely cause of problems with NanoVNA Saver is the version of Python in use (see the note nanoVNA-H4 software support under Ubuntu)

Tried with 86.016MHz PLL clock and 192kHz ADC sampling - that is a setting which should work fine. I registered 2 freezes within 24hours (H4 with stock cable and stock load, powered via usb or from battery).

I have to correct my previous information on the AIC3204 max clock speed. There is the PLL inside used for generating internal clocks, PLL is used with the 86MHz as well as 98MHz settings. The table with max clock frequencies is attached below (from TI's ref manual).

Anyhow, here my H4 freezes randomly with 98MHz clock setting (ie. it freezes within several seconds while on the "Version" screen). Could be the overheating, or, it may come from some critical AIC3204 settings.
