Anyone going/been to starfest ?
I just registered for starfest last night for the first time and am looking forward to it.
I'm curious what the safety of gear looks like. If you need to go to the bathroom or leave the campsite obviously tearing down your gear is impractical. Anyone have any experience with going there and what the safety landscape looks like? Have there ever been any thefts ? |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi??I have been going on and off for many years. I have always felt very safe. I am going this year as well. I meet up with a group of women, but there is usually also a group of men that go from Ottawa as well .
During the day, I have my telescope, all wrapped up in a tarp, and it is right next to my tent. You get to know your neighbours pretty fast as it is pretty crowded and your neighbours will of course, notice if strange people are ?crawling through your
stuff.
I left my gear out all the time. No problem.?

Hello Bojan,
Generally, a star party / camping event like Starfest is great to be able to setup, align and leave your mount and scope for the duration of your stay. ?Quite safe to being with so much company. ?I would just make sure not to leave small accessories like eyepieces and filters around when you are away. ?Scopes are best covered up with reflective material for sunny days or water proof tard in case it rains. I've been going to starfest since 1991. (Missed one because of

sickness). Never had anything stolen. But during one starfest, Doug George had a digital-setting circle box stolen off his scope. This greatly upset a lot of people. Much invective was cast against he unknown assailant for violating our tribe's mutual trust. Starfesters naturally watch out to protect each-other's stuff. I would keep unattended scopes covered. Still, the risk is very low. And people will help watch your stuff. attilla danko, , danko@..., attilladanko@... On Thu, May 18, 2023 at 12:23?PM Pierre Martin <pmartin@...> wrote:
