Re: Astronomy Day 2024 - May 18th
Hello Jim,
I always look forward to Astronomy Day, as it has always been the public outreach event highlight of the year! I would love to hold the event once again on the parking lot outside Chapters, as we have done (or planned for)every year since 2001. ?It is amazing to think that we have held Astro Day at this location for over 20 years! Jim, I expect to be able to attend. ?With a new baby, I will likely need some help for the planning and coordinating with Rio-Can and Chapters. ?So that would be much appreciated! Also, as always, we rely on volunteers to help us out (whether to help with morning setups or evening tear downs, assist telescope owners or even just to join in the fun!). ?It really is a fantastic day when everything comes together with the weather. ?It is very rewarding to share our passion of astronomy with the public. ?If you are new to the group or have never done it, please don't be shy... it's an event for all, newcomers and veterans astronomers alike! After the disappointment of poor weather for last year's event, it would be great if things work out this year. Cheers! Pierre |

Re: Astronomy Day 2024 - May 18th
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank Jim for starting the conversation. I know that some of you ?( by definition) are not necessarily PRO-RASC ? That being said the RASC has pointed to the OAOG event often in the past few years so maybe RASC can return the favour this year. In the events that Jim ?cannot find folk to coordinate the Chapters event? without him I would like to propose a joint event with the Ottawa RASC Centre. ? Since we are back at CASM it may be that we will be asked to attend there and thus could possibly work together. ? ? Random thought, don¡¯t yell at me please¡.. ? Re: Meet up?
Hi Emily,
Many of our club members will be driving south to be within the path of totality.? Some are just driving to a park somewhere along the St. Lawrence river (eg. Johnstown, Morrisburg, etc), others are driving to the Kingston area.? Some, like myself, are travelling further south in search of a better probability of clear skies.? My advice to you, if you plan to travel south to be in the path of totality, is to travel well before the event.? Traffic has the potential to be crazy, both before and after the event.? Many club members are travelling down the day before to avoid getting stuck in traffic. Best Regards, Jim T. |

Re: Meet up?
Hey there, I'm off to Montreal. I needed to go there anyhow, and the fact it'll have totality was a good excuse to plan the trip around then. Hopefully the weather will play nicely.? Company is always great! Andrea On Mon., Mar. 4, 2024, 16:35 emilyhicks23 via , <emilyhicks23=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Simon presenting at March 1st RASC meeting
Hi Ariel,
I guess that depends on what sort of 12yo you have.? A typical monthly RASC meeting runs from 7:30pm to about 9:30 or 10:00pm.? There are a number of different people who present on various astronomy related topics like: what will be in the sky this month, sharing pictures captured over the past month, how-to type talks, or more science or science-history based talks.? You can watch recordings of past meetings on Youtube to get an idea of what to expect. If your 12yo is interested in science, and likes watching Discovery Channel type shows, they may enjoy our meetings. Regards, Jim T. |

Re: Simon presenting at March 1st RASC meeting
Hello! I'm wondering if this presentation might appeal to 12yo kids?? I haven't attended an event?before so I'm wondering if it'd be wise to bring a 12yo?? I also have the option of bringing multiple 12yo young energetic minds but I'm feeling very uncertain.? Any?thoughts? Thanks! Ariel |

Simon presenting at March 1st RASC meeting
For those interested, Simon is presenting a talk on Mercury at this month's RASC meeting.? Attendance is free to all, although if you attend in person at the Canadian Museum of Aviation & Space, you will need to pay for parking.? You can also attend online, just pre-register using the link below.? Meeting starts at 7:30pm this Friday, March 1st.
I will also be presenting a little something on Friday, but that is not important.? :) Cheers, Jim T. |
