Hi,

I plan to go to the Moose Creek observing site this evening for some observing and to take some astro-photography. ?I will be there around 7pm.

Remember after you turn onto road 6, the left turn is after 1.7km. ?Then the spot to set up is 1.6km from the road.

I have already notified the owner and he gave us the ok.

Hello all!

After a busy summer (and quite hot, not to mention hazy), we are looking forward to resuming public sidewalk astronomy sessions later this month on the parking lot of Chapters near Ogilvie road. ?The weekend of September 22-23 near the First Quarter Moon would be ideal or some of the nights before or after those dates. ?Saturn is also beginning to be visible earlier at night.

Stay tune as we get closer!

Clear skies!

If you'd like a look at the map of El Ni?o impact on April's cloud cover prospects (something I discussed a month or more back), you'll find it on the Sky and Telescope site

Observing session tonight at Moosecreek site - GO!

Edited

Hello all,

The weather is looking favorable for an observing session this Saturday night east of Ottawa (it will clear late this afternoon, and should be clear most of tonight).

I plan to arrive at about 9pm to setup. ?All are welcome. ?The property owner has been notified and has given us the OK.

For those who haven't been to the MooseCreek site, here are the maps / directions. ?NOTE: ?These maps are old and slightly outdated. ?At about 1.6km into the stretch of the farm field, you must then take a LEFT turn out into the path that goes into the corn field. ?About 0.3km later, you'll reach the end which is where we setup (a dead end turnaround).

Event This Saturday!

Hello all!

I¡¯m putting on a stargazing event in Notre-dame-du-laus this Saturday, August 19th, and need somebody to hopefully help with a guided session observing the stars!?

I¡¯m happy to pay but would love to put together a fun educational activity together where the night sky is unobstructed by city lights.

All are welcome, but please send me a message, text at 819-918-0038, or email at DylanPuchniak@...?if you¡¯re able to help and also if you would like to attend so I can confirm numbers!

There will be a BBQ dinner, fire and overnight camping.?

Looking forward to meeting some of you!

Re: Observing session tonight at Moosecreek site - GO!

Hi Christo,

As Jim pointed out, the site is at the very end of the path (the left turn through the corn field). ?It opens up more at the end of the path where we set up. ? Weeds and grass has definitely grown more on that path, making it less obvious than it used to.

- Pierre

Re: Observing session tonight at Moosecreek site - GO!

Hi Christo:

If you would have driven further along the path (where the green line is) you would have come to the end to a round a bout to set up more comfortably.? Sorry I couldn't make it last night.

Jim?

Hi Pierre, yes I was there around 11:45 pm.?

I drove down the un-named road with the tall grass (last arrow on instructions) and at some point (about 1.7 km) there was a locked gate. Just before the gate there was a left turn through the corn field - I ended up setting just a the junction.?

In the picture bellow I marked in red where the gate was and where I drove and inn green where I setup. I left around 1am.?

The current Google maps satellite unfortunately no longer matches the pdf screen shots and there¡¯s.?

Hello Christo,

I was there last night and the site is accessible.? I saw sometime before midnight some car lights and I figured it might be you but then the car lights disappeared.? You may have driven too far and missed turning left.? I nearly missed the turn too as there was some grass growth and it was a bit harder to see.

There was a few nice bright Perseids last night.? Did you see any?
