Slaters wagons
If I read the review correctly in the O Gauge Gazette These coaches and wagons are basically the same as the original makers produced but with today's detail? upgrades, I did not purchase the kits back in the day as I was at that time modelling in 4mm using EM gauge track (18.2mm) so I therefore do not know.
I have two of the brake thirds and I have checked them over and put them back in their boxes for now, I agree with you John about the non-protypical coupling pockets, but having read the instructions supplied with the coaches I understand the reason behind the decision if modeller's want to use the Kadee knuckle coupling. I found an article on RMWeb that dealt with the building on the Slater's L&B Coach and the person who wrote and posted this article did finally choose to use the correct couplings from Zamzoodle, looking through the accompanying photos it looks easy enough to do, if the wagons and vans do have the same oval coupling pockets as per the coach then I strongly suggest looking at the coach article on RMWeb, it is part of "Bratton Flemming" that has been built in 7mm using O14 track. I should perhaps declare my interest as Zamzoodled is me. I did write to Slaters when I heard they had taken over the range asking if they could be made compatible but failed to get a response. I can't see the kadee box arrangement allowing enough sideplay - the coupler centre of my L&B Manning--Wardle overhangs the outside rail on a 26ins radius curve. Perhaps I need to buy one and find out.?

Hello John C, I do know Zamzoodle is yourself, I have purchased a few couplings for my L&B stock, I actually found your couplings easy to make up, though at the moment they are not fitted to any rolling stock at present, I can also understand your problem about the Kadee coupler too, that is a hell of a lot of overhang.

I am now in receipt of these wagons and can confirm that they have, in my humble opinion, the correct round coupler housing.? These are white metal kits and the housing does need drilling out.? Having done an initial trial, they will fit John C's excellent Zamzoodled couplings, see attached photo's.

Thanks for the update Cliff.?
If I recall correctly the original L&B Models wagons were whitemetal so perhaps the same masters are used - with the correct coupler base. Whereas the original L&B coaches were resin so the new ones have obviously been made from new tooling.? So (shameless plug alert) the wagons?will just need my spring and washer pack and Jones-Calthrop couplers.? Whilst we are on the subject I am slowly succumbing to Roy's?haranguing for an article on fitting ZZ couplers to various locos and rolling stock. Of course you'll have to shell out for a copy to read it.? John |
开云体育One of my original L&B Models editions of this kit ran on John's Pentewan Light Railway at ExpoNG in 2014,?towed by my 0-2-1T ?Decauville as a visiting?Fédération des Amis des Chemins de Fers Seconadire 'special'. Needless to say, fitted with ZZ couplers! David H 'Chelfham' From: [email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of John C via Groups.Io <jclutterbuck2001@...>

开云体育David, ? Don’t build it too quickly and there may be decal salvation on its way.? The L&B transfers are on my to do list. More info in a separate post I’ll do later today? [got some CAD work to a delivery deadline to get done first] ? Paul Martin EDM Models ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of David John via Groups.Io ? OK.? I have succumbed and an early L&B wagon is now in my 'to do' queue. |
开云体育There's still?a?chance for me then - one of my 2 original Dave Nicholson versions bought at Shepton 15+ years ago?is still in its flatpack state (the other is a tad 'clay splashed' from its time on John C's PLR). Paul, I can't remember how I responded to your shout-out a year or so back on which decals (transfers, surely?) people want: early L&B for me, please, both wagons and carriages (minus crests). Just don't rush me. David H From: [email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of David John via Groups.Io <davidphillipjohn@...>

"Don't build it too quickly" !!!
Paul, did you forget it was me you were talking to?? How do I get slower the 'glacial'? But thanks for the info and I will wait patiently. Thanks -- DavidWebsite: www.rhyd.weebly.com |
开云体育David, Just a thought, but which wagon are you modelling in 'early' build state but?with SR lettering? David H From: [email protected] <[email protected]> on behalf of David John via Groups.Io <davidphillipjohn@...>

OK.? I have succumbed and an early L&B wagon is now in my 'to do' queue.
My question is, where can I obtain the correct 'SR' period decals?? Please note, for a whole raft of reasons,? I will not deal with a certain gentleman Blaenau Ffestiniog. Many thanks David Website: www.rhyd.weebly.com |
开云体育David, ? You get slower by asking me to build it! ? My modelling isn’t glacial, it’s geological. ? Cheers, ? Robin ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]
