Micro-layouts ...
开云体育Now there’s an idea.Having bought Crichel from Roy Wood I’ve been busy reconfiguring it a little to fit my railway room/study (sounds much grander than it is!) and getting some stock together to run on it. ?It is of course firmly 0-16.5 which has been pinging my
conscience slightly as a member of THIS group! ?It also doesn’t allow much scope for the partially built K1 (that I tracked down on eBay and that I want to finish in 0-14) to run - a microlayout in 0-14 might be a good idea …

开云体育I built a 0-9 micro layout that was inside an ikea toy box. It looked ok. It would have been better in 0-14. In my book it was let down by the use of 009 point work. I put some photos of it on RM web last year it's called "Crackpot mining" Marc On 16 Jun 2015, at 09:30, G Shearn gbs@... [O14] <O14@...> wrote:

开云体育I've started quite a few (mostly expong entries), O14, 009,
even in the distant past OO and EM.

I find trackbuilding in O14 very difficult, so a quickie with
some Peco 009 and a couple of Paul Windle locos will sort out any operational
problems without too much time invested.
?
I seldom finish them, but then that's not always the intention
at the beginning. So unfinished layouts don't bother me in the slightest.
The other great?benefit is that they're table top sized, and can
be stored on-end in a cupboard. I wish I had a train-room!
?
I always enjoy Neil Rushby's layouts. His NG modelling is in
009, and he seldom travels beyond the Corris Model Railway show. But they are
always simple, well thought-out, and beautifully modelled. He's a fairly
prolific blogger - googling?Rushby's Railways will get you
there.

开云体育Marc,I like the use of the (APA ?) box and lighting to create that underground feel. ?The tippers and other stock look like RCL products. ?If so, how easy was it to convert them for 0-9 and how did you do it …
Gary?
ps I read an article about APA box layouts in NL or NGIR, but I’m blowed if I can find it again.

开云体育I also just had a more practical thought... it should
fit on a bookshelf in your home. Could be any size, but must actually fit on a
shelf. That might be more approachable, I'm guessing most of us have
bookshelves.

Hi Gary
Crichel is a very fine layout so I wouldn't worry too much about mentioning it here. Of course you know where there's a good test track for your K1 - double heading with Garratts will deserve another Superpower video. In fact I ran out of rolling stock when I tried testing my K1's haulage limits up the climb recently. Perhaps I need to get building my clay waggons. John -- Sent from my phone with K-9 Mail. |
