014 in the free newspaper

Meanwhile I was approached a couple of weeks ago out of the blue by the Railway Magazine guide to Modelling, the free newspaper found in model shops etc all over the country as they are doing a Welsh NG theme next month and wanted an FfR layout to feature. So 1500 words and a selection of photos of Dinas 1869 should appear in the December issue and I have made sure that the 014 concept is highlighted (bar the editors blue pencil). Nice to have some specialist coverage in a magazine usually very much RTR OO.?
Paul?

Well done Paul. Funnily enough I got my first copy of this last weekend from an occasional visit to the Salisbury Model Shop (which is excellent). I'll make sure I visit again soon to get a copy.

Hi Paul,

Maybe I'm getting dim in my old age ( ask my wife !) but quote " Nice to have some specialist coverage in a magazine usually very much RTR OO"

How can this apply to the Railway Magazine, which, as far as I know specialises in 12" /1ft scale railways ??? Or, at least the Railway Magazine on sale in Australia does.

Cheers,
Frank Savery,

You're not getting dim, Frank: it's not the same mag.
Over here there is a low-quality print free tabloid newspaper given out at some model shops which contains quite a lot of 00 RTR modelling 'advertorial' and re-hashed 'how to' articles outnumbered by adverts for the various UK model shops that give it away.
I don't believe there is any link whatever to the glossy magazine which retails in newsagents. For a start, it doesn't display the same sort of production values; though if they've approached Paul for an article they're clearly starting to learn good taste!

It's a strange newspaper really - they give it away in the FfR shop here in Port so I have picked up another copy this week to remind myself what I have let myself into. I last looked at it over a year ago so it is not a regular read. ?I was quite surprised by the request from the editor, but they seemed keen and liked the pictures (mostly now also on NGRM forum) despite the fact that nothing on the layout has anything to do with mainstream 00 RTR railway modelling which is what the paper seems to concentrate on. ?Unless he cuts chunks out I have ?tried to demystify our branch of the hobby and mention a few key kit producers in the article. EDM and Port Wynnstay do quite well! Also this group and the 7mm NGA get a mention of course. ?Finally they are paying me rather more than any for article that I have done ever! ?
