Re: Narrow Gauge & Industrial Railway Modelling REVIEW

Roy and I have been deliberating over this for some years. There are some substantial costs involved to ensure correct copyright protection. Digital?editions really require a different layout to support small devices which means double the production effort. And having a digital edition is likely to reduce, rather than supplement,?the paper distribution to the point it becomes unviable. And we have had many people stating they prefer the paper as evidenced here.

@Brian - we do have a searchable digital index here:?

Not for me. I love the print version, best quality magazine out there.

Ah, I only said something because you originally mentioned the non-delivery delay as being a shared pain so it seemed a faster alternative might be offered.

Dave,

Several decades of book purchases from this U.K. dealer, and I just had him add "Review" to my standing order for "MRJ", as that was an easier transaction than subscription back in the "bad old days" before PayPal and such! ?At this point, the dealer is "an old friend", who has tracked down any number of "out of print" railway titles for me -- one of the "nice people" we get to meet through the hobby, so I was disinclined to switch to subscription, after years of good service.

Why not just have it sent directly to the US via subscription rather than through a UK bookseller??

We have had reports that it has started landing on UK doormats. Hopefully it will be as quick as last time to get around the world, but as you will see from previous posts we are very much in the hand of the postal services.

I was planning to use know scale 2nd radius points as I didn't think they would go round the small points. Nice if the could as this opens a few more options?

Hi Marc,

I have an Agenoria (now part of the EDM range) Penrhyn 'Port' class and a Penrhyn 'Large Quarry' class, both of these in real life have a 4ft wheel base, the Alice class has a 3ft 3in wheel base. I have a small quarry layout in O14 which has curves with a radius of 250mm and the little 0-4-0's navigate these with no problem although I've had to employ some gauge widening. The biggest issue is that these little Hunslets had quite a long overhang, overall lengths for these locos was 13ft for the Alice class and 13ft 10in for the Penrhyn loco's, which poses a problem for coupling. Slate wagons and waste wagons tend to have very little overhang which means on tight curves your couplings must have enough side to side movement to accommodate the difference in overhang. The Penryhn used a centre buffer whereas the Dinorwic Quarry used dumb buffers on their loco's which provides an even bigger challenge especially when propelling stock due to potential buffer lock on curves, especially reverse curves. Being 0-4-0's and having a relatively short wheel base means these little loco's will navigate around perhaps unprototypically tight curves, I think the real issue is how to couple your loco's to your stock.?

Mark.

EDM Alice Class Dinorwic quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST

Hi all.

Not sure if this question has been asked but does anyone know what the minimum radius the EDM Alice Dinorwic can go round? I'm planning a small 0-14/Scale 7 micro layout based on "The end of the line" layout but set about 1900-23 and in a iron mine.
