Re: Back to back gauge

Given the level of support from individuals 7mmNGA Sales cannot justify?buying stock.

Sad to say, the collective memory of the?volunteers who man the Sales stand cannot recall being asked for a B to B gauge?for 14mm gauge!

There is missionary work still to be done, it seems!!

Are any other O14 folk planning to be at or better still exhibit at the 7mm NG open day at Mickleover (Derby) on Saturday?

Re: Back to back gauge

Hi James,

Okay still count me in for one whatever you decide to go ahead with.

Up to now I have been using G.W. Models adjustable back to back for 3mm scale, it goes from 10.3 to 12.8. ?Which is handy for ?moving 16.5 wheel sets, as you can set the back to back for each wheel ?to be moved along the axel so as to be equidistant from the centre. I use an axel push made by Fahrmann. Even so a fix gauge will be very useful.

Regards

Julian

Hi Julian,

I had not planned to have the gauge done in that way.

It is possible but would increase the price due to the increased production process.

I can discuss the options with Malcolm when I see him on Sunday and see how that would affect the price.

James?

Hi James
Yes I would like one.
Will the gauge be similar to their O gauge one and show the maximum back to back of 12.50 mm as well as the minimum of 12.40 mm as in RCL standards?
kind regards

The back to back will be 12.4mm.

At present I do not have a cost for the item, as with all things the more I order the cheaper it will be, so I am looking to see what the interest in such an item would be.

I have ordered 5 to start with but if more people are interested I can get a price on what an increased order would be.

If you are interested let me know.

I know several people have made excellent ones, but I do not have the skills or equipment to do so.

David,

?

Worth trying anyone doing finescale track, Carrs maybe, or is there a society?

?

Your bolt method works fine, widen the slot first, drill the plate oversize and Araldite the bolts with it sat on your 'standard' track. There's then no stress on the bolts whilst they set.

Thanks for that!? Try as I might I just could not get the accuracy I needed; but the gauge widening worked fine!

Does anyone make a three point 00 track gauge anymore?

David,

Make your own, buy either a three point gauge in 00 finescale or EM.

Make yourself a few inches of 14mm dead straight track gauged with callipers.

Cut the bought gauge in half, and take a few mm out of the centre. Place one part on each rail of your standard track. Apply Araldite to the top surfaces. (File flat first if there is any raised lettering). Put a piece of metal, almost anything will do, on the Araldite. Weight on top of the rails so the whole lot goes f lat, or clamp, hair grips, plate and gauge sections. The other way is to build it upside down with the track rail down on top.

?

Go to bed, Araldite will have set by morning.

?

I'll be offering one of those as well, if I can find it!

Hi James

I have always seen this Group as an online self-help group and this sort of project is real and practical self-help.? You are to be applauded for your initiative (and doggedness, I know how long you have been after one of these).? The availability of more 'home-grown' solutions, tools and jigs can only help 014.? Well done.

Now does someone fancy producing a three-point track gauge so I can get consistent gauge widening on curves?

Cheers

Please tell Malcolm that if he wants to make this a standard product (or make a few extra for stock) then we can put details and links on the O14 group website.
And Adrian may want to put details in 7mm NGA News.

I am in the process of getting a back to back gauge produced for me by Model Railway Parts. I have been after one for a while, I am aware of what is on the market but they are not quite what I am after.

The gauge will be similar to the standard gauge one they offer at present

The back to back will be 12.4mm.

At present I do not have a cost for the item, as with all things the more I order the cheaper it will be, so I am looking to see what the interest in such an item would be.

I have ordered 5 to start with but if more people are interested I can get a price on what an increased order would be.

If you are interested let me know.

I know several people have made excellent ones, but I do not have the skills or equipment to do so.

Kind regards

James Hockley

Re: Back to back gauge

James,

I'm up for one, please.

I am now up to 15 in total.

I have had chat with Malcolm from Model Railway Parts, at these kind of numbers the gauge will come out around ?9.

Obviously a little more than his O gauge item, but he makes many more of those.

If the numbers go up the price will come down.

I will handle distribution of these in the first instant, expect postage to about 80p as they should go in a large envelope, over seas will be at cost.

Is every one OK with that price?

Lead time will about 4-5 weeks.?

No problem Geoff,

You do that or pay using paypal and I will post to OZ, either way I am happy.

The good news is I am up to about 20 units now, which could help with the price.

Hi James,

Please put me down for one as well, I live in Australia, but I can send you a Barclays Bank Cheque and give you an address in the Black country to send it to.

Cheers
