KAM XL Firmare
Finally we have a new Firmware update for Kantronics KAM - XL users. Not many realize there is the possibility your KAM-XL may reset to factory default. This has been an ongoing problem. All is good until a user connects to your station and checks your heard list by typing J L for the Long list. Bill, W6OAV, did extensive research with several stations capturing data which was sent to Kantronics. More recently Rick, KE0GB, and Ken, KB9KC, were actively a part of the Firmware trial. They received several versions. Each time they updated their XLs W6OAV and I would pound away at them trying several known and unknown failure procedures. to cause a reset. The concern was not just looking for a fix but to be sure nothing else was broken.? Sept 1, 2020 the firmware was officially released by Kantronics. This new release is available for download from their website. It is recommended you upgrade your XL. Thanks to Ken and Rick for being the testers for this long time problem.? Bill Burek AC0VC |

Rick, KE0GB, had sent out a Bull on Sept 1st as well. Yes I would verify that firmware when you get the XL back. 01-Sep B$ 928 PACKET WW KE0GB Kantronics KAM XL Bill ac0vc From: "Sholto Fisher, K7TMG" <sholto.fisher@...> To: "network105" <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 3, 2020 10:11:36 AM Subject: Re: [network105] KAM XL Firmare

Hi all. Thanks everyone. I have managed to upgrade/update mine.
It would have been nice if fixes and new features were included in a text file, zipped along with the hex file. Am I missing anything, a different help file somewhere else on Kantronics website? I have created a short video whilst updating the Kantronics KAM-XL firmware. Hiccups due to the user... I have not had time to test it yet (the new KAM-XL firmw) as I was doing a final update on a diff video - cleared out all the mumbo-jumbo in my older FlexNet32 video (now the node section has been clarified!, DAMA added, including using DAMA slave in Kantronics KAM-XL - older firmware - lab config). 73, de J, M?IPU? There was a Bull sent by Rick, KE0GB, on Sept 1st. It can be found on any BBS by scrolling down the list or doing the following. L> packet. Look for Kantronics Kam XL. Bill ac0vc Thank you for the wake up call Bill. I should check my own BBS more often! It just sits there 'processing' stuff. 73, de J, M?IPU? YO§©FCA (BPQ node: CHING) |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Guys That is very encouraging that they have that issue fixed with the
help of those who worked to solve the problem with beta testing,
etc..? It would be nice now if they could make the firmware?
interface with KaGold, Hostmaster, or a? smilar new program
complete with node and BBS, because I am certain at least the xl
doesn't work with KaGold, and likely doesn't work with Hostmaster
either. It is doubtful anyone uses either of the aforementioned
much anymore. I guess we should be thankful that likely that issue
was solved. WinPack has been available to use with the kam's, but
kludgy when comparing it to KaGold. When the v8.2 dies I can replace it with an xl. 73 warren On 9/3/20 5:56 AM, William - AC0VC

You will need to install the upgrade. Most don't realize there is a problem especially if their station doesn't get much traffic. See the previous comment from 9/3/2020 for details.

I should have said the update brings the version to V1.20234. If your firmware is that or higher you are good.
