This is a reminder message from the moderators, automatically sent
out each month. It covers some policy guidelines.
1. EXCESSIVE QUOTING: The space for messages in the archives may be
limited; we have once before reached the limit with subsequent
automatic deletion of a month's worth of messages. For this reason,
please respect the value of archived information by limiting quoted
material. When you reply, please remove all but the minimum amount
of the quoted message necessary to provide context for your reply.
If the thread is already long, consider quoting nothing, starting
your reply from a blank body. If no concise quotable passage neatly
leads into your response, summarizing is an appropriate alternative.
Over-quoting can even cause confusion, such as when a reply says,
"I agree with you", or, "that's a good idea", but it is unclear
what is being referred to, since the entire original message was
quoted.
Considering that the body of many messages consists of around 80%
quoted material and 20% new material, it is easy to see that much
of the text in our archive consists of redundant material. Anyone
searching the archive must also deal with a longer list of hits
since the search will find each message with the search key,
whether the original or the redundant quoted-again material. This
makes searching the archive less fruitful in quickly locating
desired information. Consequently fewer people will use the
archive and instead just ask the question again.
Excessive quoting is perhaps the most common lapse in
netiquette observed on the forum, and members who gratuitously
over-quote may be moderated without warning.
Along those lines, simple thank-you replies to individuals who
posted useful and helpful information should be sent to their
private e-mail addresses, instead of to the whole group, since
they are intended for only one person.
For more thorough guidelines on posting format, please read our
Database > List FAQ section online and/or one or more of the
following:
Although some of these guides are intended for Usenet newsgroup
posts, and we may have slightly different policies in a few
cases, most of the contents apply equally well to our forum.
2. HTML: Mail in HTML is strongly discouraged, due to inefficiency.
The code of an HTML email message is typically 3 or more times the
size of the same message in plain text, due to the HTML tags and
the double inclusion of all the original text. Please post using
plain text only.
3. File Attachments: Since Yahoo doesn't store message attachments
for online viewing, and only members receiving individual emails
would receive any attachments sent, attachments are turned OFF.
Any attachments to emailed posts will be removed automatically.
4. Photos: This section is organized into albums by subject,
with names of members' personal albums for showing off their own
projects prefixed by "Member: ". If your photo is of general
interest, please try to locate the best existing album to upload
it into. If there is no appropriate album for it, then make a new
one as necessary, but please browse the albums first to note which
classifications have already been made, to be sure that there
is no existing place for your new image. If you want an album of
your own, please use the "Member: " prefix when you name it.
5. Files: The organization of this section uses folders arranged by
subject. All files for similar projects or topics are grouped
together. Please try to locate the best place to upload your files.
If there is no suitable folder or sub-folder for what you have, then
make a new one, but note that many different classifications have
already been made, so please browse the folders first to be sure
that there is not already a place for it. In the comments for each
file please describe the file, and include message numbers of posts
referring to it. Please do not use personal folders (i.e., folders
with your name or user ID). That is for the Photos section.

available in our online Database section:
Thank you for your attention and we hope to see you participate in
this lively and informative forum.
