a different approach to the end fed 140 ft antenna
开云体育
Many of you know that my days of "freedom" are ticking down and on ? April 30th ? we are moving to a new QTH. I have my "shack on wheels" now figured out:? four computer carts - each one is 24 in wide x 18 inch deep. Two carts are for computer-monitor-keyboard-speaker,? one cart for HF gear (Icom 7610) and one cart for VHF/UHF gear (Icom 705) and Mirage 2m amp. I'm pretty sure this will all? "fit" in a? 4 ft x 6 ft shack.
I have a 100 ft run of RG213 coax to the attic (two story apartment house) where a very kind electrician did the work for me!! (residents are not allowed in the attic). I
don't know (yet) the dimensions of the attic - but I HOPE long
enough for a 140 ft wire. I'm not sure what kind of HF / VHF / UHF? I can put in the attic - but it is a great start to a new QTH. I have very limited options outside in my "garden area" but I already have a 9:1 UNUN hidden inside of a birdhouse! And....? there are two very long RAIN GUTTERS on the apartment building. And... there is a 25 ft chimney and fire place - I can actually hide a vertical inside the chimney if I don't light a fire. I just hooked up a 21 ft vertical with a 9:1
UNUN and am getting great results on 10 meters and 17 meters.
For the past month I have been playing with (and fussing with) with a 140 ft long? MyAntenna?? 80-10m? end-fed. It uses a commercially made? 49:1? UNUN and many ops are now using this (or MFJ / ARRL? look-alikes) on 80m and 40m NBEMS nets. I put my borrowed one up but had to string the 140 ft wire into an odd shape to fit inside my property (giant horse-shoe). It tuned up reasonably well on the digi portions of 80m and 40m.? I tried adding a short counterpoise, then a longer counterpoise, then using the coax shield (100 ft RG213) as the counterpoise, to compare to no counterpoise (MyAntenna is a one-half wave on 80m).
Results --- It NEVER received as well as my? 1/2 wave? 136
ft long? Inverted V 80m center-fed dipole. Consistently 1 to 2
S-units below my dipole (ugh). And on 40m it NEVER received as well as my 1/2
wave? 66ft long, 40m center-fed dipole. Same loss of about 2
S-units (10dB). double ugh Why was that? Were there losses in the UNUN itself?? I knew the coax itself was good (100 ft RG213) and the connectors were fine. The RETURN LOSS (dB) and the SWR, measured from my shack after 100 ft of RG213, were decent, below 2:1? in the digi part of 80 and 40m.
So after fussing for a month, I just replaced the ? MyAntenna?? 49:1 UNUN? with an old? 1960's? Johnson Viking Matchbox? (antenna tuner). The tuner is outside (rain proof) with the 140 ft wire connected right to one of its 'balanced' terminals. The other side is grounded.
I manually tuned the (tuning and matching) capacitors and got a decently large RETURN LOSS (dB) and a sufficiently low SWR to give it a try over the next two weeks. Then it must come down. In fact, all the antennas must come down by
mid-April.
Below is the result of the Johnson Viking "MatchBox Antenna Tuner"? (the 275 watt model)? replacing the? MyAntenna? 49:1? UNUN. I'm using the same wire for the antenna - in
the same orientation. I'll check this out on 80m and see if it does at least as well as my center-fed? 80m? 1/2 wave dipole.
*** TESTS? *** If any of you NBEMS folks can join me at ? 8 AM-9AM? on Tue/Thur/Fri of this week, I will be listening on? 3583 kHz (vfo)? with? Thor 22?? and? Fldigi. I'd like to run 25W into both antennas and see how they perform over typical 10-300 mile NVIS paths.
I can even open up my Zoom Link so we can talk
about what folks are seeing S/N Zoom Link:??

Re: FLAMP 2.2.11 bug report ADD Button Enter (FileName.xxx) windows 11 and 10
In the grand statement in the Windows world. "It's a feature, not a bug". Remove exit() command when a file not found problem is encountered. Summited patch. If the script does not appear to do anything (file load wise) check the log file to see if a issue was recorded (next FLAMP release).
