"Fake" NanoVNAs? 11
I was looking on Amazon and found a Black Friday sale for one, but the statement on the NanoVNA site about some being fakes and unsupported made me ask... is this one real? https://www.amazon.com/AURSINC-NanoVNA-H-Vector-Network-Analyzer/dp/B07Z5VY7B6/

Choke measurement 41
I have a RF choke in a TS-530S that I'm trying to test for induction and frequency. I saw the methodology of building a loop to go around a coil to read this. I really don't want to remove the choke, it's old and fragile. I made a partial loop, see image, and was able to get a frequency from it. I don't know anything about this, it was an experiment. Does anyone have a more educated idea about the test?

Measure transformers, inductors and trap filters 25
Hello guys, I'm new here and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to use my NanoVNA to measure those things. I made a search in the group topics but it's always about the results and I can't really find any simple tutorial on how to take those measurements. - About transformers I would like to measure the ratio but I don't really know where to plug my nanovna to do that and how to configure it. I have "three outputs" primary, common and secondary. Should I use the 2 ports of the nanoVna to try and obtain a result ? - for the inductors I would like to know if I can just plug to the 2 ends of it and find it's value ? which value should I show on my display ? - for the trap filter I used the method where you just go through the inductor with a cable and look at the phase but I'm not really sure it's the best way to do it, can I just plus to A and B on my graph and look at the result instead ? If you have any link or video that shows the detail of the measurement and wiring process I'd greatly appreciate that. As I said I'm a new ham so I don't really know how to use my VNA except for measuring SWR of my antenna but I'm convince it's a great tool, I just need to learn how to use it.

nanovna saver on saa-2N 6
Re-calibrating my H4 and my SAA-2N with Nano-saver and VNA-QT (VNA-QT on the SAA-2N only), , I find an issue with using the nanoVNA-saver with the SAA-2N that is dogging me. The saver works fine with the H4, but when connecting to the SAA-2N, on initial connection via USB the frequency range loads as 200-300MHz. I change it to the instrument width (10kh to 3000Mhz, it will not sweep, returns: " ERROR during sweep...stopped....argument out of range". Experimenting with frequencies, I find that I can sweep and calibrate in a range of 10mhz to 1000mhz, everything works fine, but if I either lower or raise the frequency outside that range, I get the same out of range error. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dipole antenna with Low Z0 feed point Impedance 73
Using a VNA to measure dipole antenna feed point characteristics has been discussed. I believe this is a little different twist. I have an attic mounted 1/2 wave dipole antenna with a 20-25 ohm Z0 at the feed point. I expected this because of the 12 foot attic mounting height, non-linear non-symmetric shape, near by structures, poor ground effect, other constraints, etc. Having confirmed this, how to best match this dipole's Z0 of 25 Ohms to a 50 ohm coax line is now the challenge. Would a 1:2 UnUn be appropriate? 1:2 BalUn? If so, what would this UnUn / BalUn look like? I have seen 2:1 commercial units available. The input and output connectors are for 2:1. I have not seen one with the connections setup for 1:2. If this is a viable are there any recommended commercial sources for it? I would then use the VNA to verify results. Thoughts and suggestions? Thank you. Bill WA2WIO

Calibrating Methods 15
Is it a viable method to do calibration of the VNA with a transmission line attached, so that when the DUT is attached to end of that line the measurements are true measurements of just the DUT?

Diagnose unresponsive ch1 port on the nanovna 8 #repair #circuit #fix #hardware #internals
Hello, I recently purchased a nanovna s-a-a-2 (hardware version v2_2, 50k-30ghz, owocomm design), and after around 2 weeks of work the measurements on the s11 port decided to malfunction. At the time of the s11 port breaking a simple v dipole was connected to the s11 port of the analyzer, and the nanovna was plugged into a usb port on my computer, where i was getting my measurements from using vna_qt. After the malfunction I tried the following: 1) inspect my sma ports to make sure the little spring contacts weren't bent or out of place 2) connected all the different types of calibration loads directly to the s11 port with no change in any parameter 3) I connected a regular sma connector to both ports at once and observed the s21 logmag value change, which seems to imply that something is wrong with the s11 port only 4) disassembled the vna to check if there was some obviously blown up component (there arent any, even under the metal shielding) 5) cleared Please help diagnose and potentially fix this problem. I attached 3 pictures of the analyzer: one with no connections, one with the 50ohm load, and one with an sma connector connecting the 2 ports.

Bugs in the source code of NanoVNA-D-v1.2.29
I was using the NanoVNA-D-v1.2.29 source code, and found that there is a bug in exti_v1.c. Because I added PA8 as an external interrupt, but when I enable the relevant code, I found that after triggering the PA8 interrupt, the program would go into an endless loop, and when I checked the code, I found that this piece of code is missing: EXTI->PR = pr; The problem was fixed with the addition of this piece of code

measuring gain of multi band vertival antenna (GAP Titan DX) 9
Has anyone measured or seen the gain factors for an antenna like the Tital DX. I have used one for 16 years, moved it to 4 different locations and it has never faild. But I am curious about its gain on the divverent bands and would like to get a measurement. Then may be I could see what is needed to improve it operationj. Any information as to what equipment would be needed and the procedures to follow would be appreciagted. Thanks. 73 Mike Wilson KE5WCT Daingerfield, Morris County, Texas (EM23ob)

Audio frequency version of a NanoVNA 16
Is there any practical way to make a VNA that provides the same measurements over the frequency range of ~10 Hz to maybe 1 MHz? Is that something that could be done with computer or cellphone apps? I know that you can get FFT and scope apps, but I would like to see the Smith chart for an audio network and other parameters. Maybe with a variable normalizing impedance.... .... My Christmas wish list.

RESET NanoVNA-F
Since I am on Windows Seven, I use nanovna-saver 0.3.8. My NanoVNA is DEEPELEC NanoVNA-F 4.3" HW2.3 HW3.1 Firmware 1.05 (Oct 31, 2022) I observe: 1/ To succeed, every time, the NanoVNA <-> PC connection, you must: - Start the nanoVNA - Connect the USB cable to the PC - Start nanovna-saver - clic [Connect] on nanovna-saver If nanovna-saver is launched first, it does not work every time 2/ Then, before any measurements or calibration, it is essential to do in the nanoVNA menu CALIBRATE RESET This operation is independent of the reloading of a previous calibration in nanovna-saver. The need for RESET on the NanoVNA surprises me. Why doesn't nanovna-saver (my version) do it itself? -- F1AMM Fran?ois

Dislord v1.2.40 new MCU - frozen on startup 4
I recently replaced my MCU on my old NanoVNA H v.3.4 board. I was able to flash the latest Dislord firmware onto the MCU via DFU and it loads up. However, it is frozen on startup. No input on touch or jog wheel. I have replaced the MCU with another one I had to see if this made any difference - none. The jog wheel switch is working confirmed by continuity test along the VDD to pins 11, 12 and 13. I have tried downgrading to a more recent version but that doesn't work either. Any other suggestions of where I should look either on the board or in firmware to try to assess? I like this NanoVNA for sentimental reasons - I have used it since I was a Foundation call and have taken it everywhere with me portable ops.

Did H4 need a Screw to fixe the SMA connector to the case
Hi All Did H4 version need an external screws to fixe the two SMA connectors to the plastic case , indeed electronic board should not have an excessive mecanical constrainte during SMA feeting to keep calibration stability for longtime with a good -70db range ?? 73's Nizar

Tuning a Firestick NGP antenna 12
I have a Firestick No Ground Plane antenna on order that I'm going to install for a friend. Reading through the reviews there are comments that you cannot use an external SWR meter to tune it. That you use the radio's internal SWR meter. I'm not sure why this would be or if that also means I cannot use either my NanoVNA or MFJ259. Does anyone have any background with these? Thanks again, /A

Default Color dump TinySA Ultra
Could someone get the default color dump with the hex codes of the TinySA Ultra for me. I have done the upgrade, but something went wrong with the colors. The background is white, the spectrum line is blue, etc. I like to have the original colors to maybe I can adjust this via the terminal emulator. Thanks in advance. Jouke van de Merwe PH1A
