Old Guy--New User

Hello All,

New member here as well as a (soon to be) new owner of a Nano-VNA. I purchased the Aursinc:
¡¾Upgraded¡¿AURSINC Vector Network Analyzer 10KHz -1.5GHz HF VHF UHF Antenna Analyzer Measuring S Parameters, Voltage Standing Wave Ratio, Phase, Delay, Smith Chart(Latest Version REV3.4) <> From our favorite internet site¡ $69. Plus a couple of adapters.

Like many, I plan on using this to measure built and constructed antennas for HF. I have watched several youtube videos in anticipation of the device¡¯s arrival. With this in mind, what files gathered here that should I read to understand this particular Aursinc device. I understand that this device is designed in Japan (and built in China). Does anyone know if this is true, if this device is one of the ¡°originals?¡±

Thanks in advance,

N6TDG

Hi Jeff,
Welcome to the forum.
Please read through the forum Wiki for info on the origin and evolution of the Nanovna. You will find a number of links to various user guides and Amateur websites with expanded info on the device.?
Be prepared for a fair amount of reading as there is a lot of info. If you have questions about anything, feel free to ask in the forum.?
Note that there are 3 main groups of the Nanovna models:? ?The original Nanovna and Nanovna-H - all use Nanovna(H) firmware. The Nanovna-F - uses only Nanovna-F firmware.? ?The Nanovna-H4 - uses only Nanovna-H4 firmware.??The firmware is not interchangeable. However, you cannot brick the Nanovna, so if you accidentally flash wrong FW, just reflash with the correct one and you're up.
The SAA2 uses an entirely different design and firmware.?
One big item to remember: always make sure your device is calibrated and that calibration is enabled or the readings are meaningless. The user guides, videos and websites detail how to calibrate and perform various measurements.
Lastly, please read the very first link in the Wiki to learn how to search forum content and narrow down to find the info you want.?
CheersLarry

Tomohiro Takahashi (AKA edy555) in Japan kicked this off with his low volume kit
that I believe is no longer available:

Hugen in China is mass producing a completed device with significant improvements

Hugen at first just called it the "nanovna", had the same 2.8" screen as edy555's design.
Hugen changed the name to nanovna-H, made some minor changes to improve
accuracy at 1ghz+ frequencies, and to allow easier comunication over a USB-C cable.

Most of the clones are of the nanovna, or perhaps nanovna-H, have the 2.8" screen.

There are a number of variants being built.
Hugen is building the nanovna-H4 with a 4" screen, has a bigger processor, but other than the screen
is pretty much identical to your nanovna-H.
There is a nanovna-F, also with a 4" screen, being built by somebody else, has significant changes,
but I believe is roughly equivalent to the nanovna-H4.
The SAA-2 designed by OwO and friends is good to 3ghz.
The new V2 that Hugen is working on should do 6ghz.

But for most of us using these things below 1ghz, any of the variants will do.

Regarding the SAA2, Hugen posted a polite reply to OwO in the recent forum thread.
His post was lost along with all others when the thread was terminated.
Hopefully Hugen will make it publicly accessible elsewhere.

R&L distributes Hugen's products here in the USA, I was very happy buying through them.
I bought $60 nanovna-H4 with the 4" screen, they also sell a 2.8" version, and the SAA2.
The tinySA might also be of interest. Arrived in about 3 days.

A good starting place for figuring out how to use a nanovna is the hexandflex tutorial:

Looking through some old posts in the forum, I suspect Aursinc is distributing
product from Hugen (since they shipped a very early nanovna-H4).
Though hard to say, many distributors switch between manufacturers depending on
who has stock, and what's cheapest.
There seem to be dozens of Chinese clone shops building nanovna's now.
Some better than others.

That is a NanoVNA-H. You can download the firmware at this link. Look under "assets" for the dfu file.

Hi

Will this firmware also work for NanoVNA -H 4 ?

thank you

You can see that he has -H and -H4 firmware at the link I posted. Make sure you use the right one for your device. The latest -H4 is 1.0.45 and it works nicely with the OneOfEleven NanoVNAapp which has more features than Saver. Search this group if you are interested in the OneOfEleven NanoVNAapp.

Hi Martin,

Will this firmware also work for NanoVNA -H 4 ?
No! Firmware for NanoVNA-H and NanoVNA-H4 is NOT interchangeable.
This was already clearly stated in the 2nd post within this thread.

However you can find the Hugen firmware for the NanoVNA-H4 if you follow the same github link:
Pay attention to the name of the firmware files. Firmware for the NanoVNA-H4 always has H4 in the filename.

There is also the DiSlord firmware for the NanoVNA-H4 that you can find in the Files section: /g/nanovna-users/files/Dislord%27s%20Nanovna%20-H%20Firmware (The rar-format archives contain two firmware files. One for the NanoVNA-H and another one for the NanoVNA-H4.)
DiSlord appears to be the most active firmware developer for the NanoVNA-H and NanoVNA-H4.

Thomas

thank you

Hi
Could anyone give me a link please to the OneOfEleven NanoVNAapp? I¡¯ve searched everywhere I can think of but I can¡¯t find a Windows program with that name.
Thanks very much,
John

How 'bout here:

Thanks very much for that. It seems to be fairly well hidden in the H firmware. Now I just need to work out how to use it!
