New NanoVNA-H software, different SWR at 70cm

So I just downloaded and installed the latest software for the NanoVNA-H, version 1.0.45. I upgraded from 0.4.5-4 which was released on January 18th.

I have a dummy load that I tested it on, and the original measurements from the old firmware was:

2m: ~1.1
70cm: 1.4-1.5 and relatively flat

After installing and clearconfig, I calibrated and tested the dummy load again just now and got the following:

2m: Still ~1.1
70cm: 1.7 to 1.9+ (it climbed over the 440 to 450 Mhz range.)

I used the same coax for all tests, so I'm not sure why the SWR jumped 0.3 points+ (or changed at all) just because of a software update.

Right now I spend my time in 2, and 70cm, so I need to be confident of the 70cm number.

Thanks. 73, Bruce KE8QFP

I downloaded and installed the *45 software for my H4 and the readings are
all over the place over 300MHz now, so will be interesting to see how this
thread progresses. The added features are promising if the readings were
stable.

Try re-installing the older 0.4.5-4 version again, and re-run and see if it goes back to the old #'s.... That would help rule in/out the new version has an issue.

Are you running the Clearconfig command through the serial console after pushing new fw to the device?
There are numerous posts about clearing out old cal data when upgrading.?

Yes I reinstalled the old version and got the old numbers.

And yes, i installed the firmware, turned off and on, then ran clearconfig 1234, then turned off and on, then calibrated.

It must be something with your setup. I did a test using a NanoVNA-H4 with the DisLord version 1.0.45 and a NanoVNA-H running the original Hugen factory firmware dated Oct. 2019. I did a sweep on a broadband antenna from 420 to 450 MHz. using NanoVNA Saver. I stored the NanoVNA-H sweep as a s1p file. Then I ran the same sweep range with the NanoVNA-H4. I recalled the NanoVNA s1p file as a reference so both were plotted on the same graph. The two sweeps are almost identical.

During the cal, are you pressing the reset soft button immediately before the cal button?

I don't even know what the soft reset button is, so no?

Please grab a copy of any of the user guides in the forum's files section and read up on the steps for calibration. You need to reset before starting calibration. That doesn't meant power cycle. That reset step clears Ram and cycling power fills it up again.?

Try this video by W2AEW on NanoVNA calibration. All his videos are well done and nicely edited. He has quite a few on the NanoVNA.

I had a similar issue around 300 MHz after updating, what you have to do is adjust the threshold to < 300 MHz, in my case I found 290 MHz to be stable. Search for the term ¡®threshold¡¯ for more information on the issue and how to get around it.

@ Larry, thanks for the info. Apparently the number I was getting before was wrong. Calibrating it correctly I go tthe same number in the old firmware as I now get with the new.

Thanks again.

So....you found the reset button.? Now grab a pile of coils, caps and resistors and play to see how the various combinations are displayed. Lots of good info in the forum messages.
