NanoVNA Saver Error Message

I am getting an "ERROR during sweep" message when using NanoVNA Saver version 0.3.9.

The message states "failed reading data 1 10 times, Data outside expected valid ranges, or in an unexpected format. You can disable validation on the device settings screen".

I am using the NanoVNa to evaluate an RF amplifier sweeping the 1 MHz to 30 MHz range. The amplifier has 25 dB of gain so I am using a 30 dB attenuator between the output of the amplifier and the input to CH 1. When I run a sweep with the amplifier powered down the results get displayed with no errors, but when I power the amplifier up and run a sweep I get the error.

Any ideas?

Hi Wes,

Not necessarily a solution, but the latest version of NanoVNA Saver is version 0.5.5 dated 05-Mar-2023.

Your Version 0.3.9 is dated 03-Apr-2022, and there have been at least four revision between your 0.3.9 and the current 0.5.5.

Here¡¯s a link to download the latest, and earlier, versions of NnaoVNA Saver:

Might be worth a try to see if a newer version helps. Good luck.

Try putting a couple of ferrite beads on your USB cable between the nanovna
and computer. You're likely getting some RF coupling onto this line,
causing some errors.

I tried a couple of ferrite beads also tried updated software but no luck. I need to get a few more beads to see if that works. Like Stan, I am suspicious that it might be RF. May be a few weeks but will advise results of more beads.

If it is indeed a USB communication error as others have suggested, have you tried using a different USB cable between the NanoVNA and PC? Maybe even try a different USB port on the PC. Are you connecting to an older USB-2 port, or ¡®newer¡¯ USB-3 port? Some software and/or hardware can act unpredictably on USB-3 ports if the hardware and/or software was designed on a USB-2 platform. Granted, USB-3 is supposed to be backward-compatible with USB-2, but USB-2 hardware+software may not be ¡°forward¡±-compliant with a USB-3 port.

Is this a direct connection to the PC, or are you connecting through a USB hub? If connecting through a hub, perhaps try a direct connection.

Just reaching for other possibilities. Good luck.
