Nanovna-H question

I have a NanoVNA which I love but now it's time to upgrade to a Nano VNA-H. Can someone please recommend a trustworthy site Thanks... Vin
 

R and L in the us has it.

That is the 4inch H version.

Do you mean the nanoVNA-H4? I would not even consider a 2.8" screen NanoVNA-H now that 4" models only cost slightly more. In addition to the larger display the -H4 has better RF performance and there is better firmware available.

Hi,

I bought mine through Amazon. It cost me a little more but there is assurance that you won't get ripped off. I bought my first tinySA through them too. My second SA I bought used from another ham so I have two. No sad tales here.

I'm looking at purchasing a new nanoVNA. I'm trying to decide between the H and the H4. The small screen doesn't bother me since I use nanosaver anyway. Question: what do you mean that "better" firmware is available. From my searches, firmware for the H4 is limited whereas there are several choices for the H. Future upgrades is also an issue. Also, what did you mean by "better RF performance"?

Check out this groups wiki for a discussion and review of the various NanoVNA products. The -H4 has many advantages besides the 4" screen.

From memory...
- Bigger battery
- Better RF front end design and power supply so less noise and better S21 performance

Firmware released by Hugen for the -H and -H4 is a bit long in the tooth now. Another firmware developer DiSlord has made extensive changes to the code for the -H4 to increase the number of data points, more dynamic range, nicer user interface and power output adjustments. For those that want to do hardware mods there is now support for an SD card to store measurements and a date clock. I believe he has also pushed the maximum frequency higher

Personally I wouldn't even consider a -H 2.8" or one of the clones. For $10 more than a -H you get a lot more for your money. If you want a metal case NanoVNA with a 4" screen the NanoVNA-F is another option.

You might want to look at one of the newer V2 4" designs like an S-A-A-2 with N connectors or a V2 Plus 4.

Maybe Herb Walker can add some comments as he is much more familiar with the latest generation products than me.

I don't think anyone has made a copy of Hugen's H4 (in the plastic case) that is shipped in a gift box with gold lettering. You can find resellers that buy from Hugen in bulk and then sell them on Amazon. They charge more that Hugen or R and L but returns are easy with Amazon if something is not to your satisfaction.

Hugen's company sold a bunch of H4s to Banggood back in the spring and that is where I got mine as it was actually cheaper than getting from R&L - and I'm in Canada. Go figure.?

The nanoVNA H4 is in stock at R&L Electronics as of today, 11/03/2020. I just ordered it along with the $7.95 test kit (circuit board with connectors, etc.)

Thanks for the responses. The nanoVNA I have now I managed to break the s11 connector off the circuit board but I did repair it successfully. Then I 3D printed an enclosure to help protect the connectors but it only works for BNC which is a pain to remove because I find myself using the SMA more. I'm hoping the h4 will have found a way to relieve stress on the connectors. Also I do work with crystals so I'm also looking for that extra resolution which hopefully it will have. Also extended frequency to 3 gigahertz frankly I have no use for that right now because primary interest is qrp work mostly on the low bands.
