Is there an Android app for the NanoVNA - WebUSB

thank you for the advice. I do so.

Both WebSerial and WebUSB are available in Google Chrome.

When accessing this page, the application uses WebSerial or WebUSB. It tries to use WebSerial with priority.

However, WebSerial is more experimental than WebUSB. WebSerial currently has fewer issues than WebUSB, but the API is not stable.

The following is a summary from my own perspective.

WebSerial:
pros:
There is no need to replace the USB driver.
There are few cross-platform issues.

cons:
The API is not stable.
#enable-experimental-web-platform-features is required.

WebUSB is the opposite of WebSerial. That is:
pros:
Enabled by default (# enable-experimental-web-platform-features is not required)

cons:
API is stable (almost libusb itself)
There are cross-platform issues.

Cho45,
Thank you for your quick reply.?
I use Greyshirts No Root Firewall on Play Store and it would not allow your application to run until I gave it network access through the firewall.?
Are you able to just ignore or fork initial network access request thread to allow application to initialize and run? Thread can then timeout and terminate.?

IMHO, everyone who uses an Android device should use at least a no-root firewall to stop outbound? requests from OS and other apps that call home with your personal data.?

I will add.

Also, is it possible to create a standalone Android app so there is no need
for network access?
The resource is in the application and Internet access is not required.

In fact, we have confirmed that the application works without a network connection.

However, I still have permission for INTERNET access.

My LG G-PAD3 is running 7.0.?
I'll try it on my rooted Nexus 7 - 2013 and follow-up here.?

cho45, What version of android do you have?
I'm using Huawei P20 (Android 9). I don't have an old Android anymore ...
So it's hard to develop for old devices.

Runs great on my Lenovo Tab4 8

Including Android versions with success and failure reports
should help sort support.

On my tablet Galaxy Tab A runs the Android version 8.1.0

I have tested your nice App with a Moto e5 Android 8 and I see data corruption of S21 that changes in frequency and density from sweep to sweep. Beside that, all seem to work fine!

Hi,I have just tried to run your latest build for the Android app and find it is still trying to access the internet at startup to this address:? ?172.217.1.10:443
This is owned by Google. Does your app use Google analytics???
The app will not run until I allow network access.? Can that be changed?
Thanks,Larry

Oristo,
Did you ever figure out how to get the NanoVNA-Web-Client to connect to your Chromebook? My Samsung Chromebook with either sideloaded apk or web client also will not connect.

You might need to run Crouton and install a full copy of Linux.

I have not yet tried with the store app; got distracted..

Did you try connecting with Chromebook 'Diginow Serial Terminal' ?
That worked on mine for nanoVNA shell commands..

Nigel/Oristopo,
Thanks for the tips. 'Diginow Serial Terminal' works as Oristopo described for sending shell commands. That means the cabling between the Chromebook and the NanoVNA is correct. The developer doesn't have access to a Chromebook so probably cannot expect any assistance from him in getting the NanoVNA-Web-Client to recognize the NanoVNA.

The Linux Chromium OS distribution looks interesting. I noticed the last Chromebook update offered a new feature to enable Linux, but I wanted to learn more about it before doing so. Using the Chromebook with the NanoVNA seems like a good reason to try it out.
