#export Help! How can I export data to Excel? #export

Hi All,
I am an absolute newbie to nanoVNA, and beg your indulgence. Having once used a $100,000 VNA, using this toy VNA is fun and exciting. But I request help. I am using a clone NanoVNA V2, and VNA View software.

1. Is there a way to export measured curves to Excel, or save the data to a file that can be read by Excel (e.g. .CSV) using this software?

2. Is there an alternative software package that will allow the above, and if so, can you send a link for downloading it?
Thanks and regards,
Ray

Hello Raymond,
After saving the data as an s1p or s2p file, I resave it as a txt file. I then open up Excel and select Data and then import the data selecting txt file. I then save the data using "spaces" to get the data in the correct column format.
I am no expert with Excel and I am sure there will be other suggestions that might be better but I have done this successfully now for more than a year and got accustomed to it!

Ray,
As Pete mentioned in the prev mesg, Touchstone files are the industry standard for exporting data from this type of equipment.
Here is the spec:

Larry

For got to add after selecting Data, select Get External Data then select From Text.
I then calculate the parameters I want from the s1p or s2p and plot them. All I generally use is gamma (S11 mag and phase) and lately S21 mag and phase for using the S21 Shunt-thru method to measure low impedances.

TNX Larry and Pete!

So let me ask the real newbie question: Where in "NVA view" is the command for saving the data as an s1p or s2p file?

Hi Larry,

Thanks. But the link is to a description of software to run the nanoVNA under LabView.
What software are you using to run your nanoVAN?
Do you recommend it?
Can you point me towards a link for downloading it?

Thanks,
Ray

Sorry, but I use OneOfEleven's NanoVNA-App software, available here:
direct link:
The Windows source code is on github for ver 1.0.207 but many users have had issues with that.
There is no doc but after installing, move mouse over graph area and right click for context menu.
Make sure to specify calibration source of external as it defaults to none.

Hello Larry!

Here
in ZIP file in directory Win32/Release is a last stable version NanoVNA-APP 1.1.207 without crash.

Best regards
Vladimir , dl7pga

Hi Larry and Vladimir:

Many thanks. I installed version from Larry's link, and it looks like you can directly save CSV files, which is perfect. I am starting to learn it by trial and error, but would appreciate any link to a users' manual or instructions.

Regards,
Ray

Sorry, no manual or instructions for the Nanovna-App.
Search the Forum's various posts regarding use.

Thanks! I see the author fixed the mouse-over crash issue when she uploaded the source to Github.

I get an access violation using this version (1.1.207) and it is unusable. 1.1.206 has no problems here.

Interesting - I had the same issue when I tried the 1.1.207 app from the releases area on OneOfEleven's github site but the 1.1.207 from the zipped file in my last post is working OK.

Which one did you try - the Github one or from the zipped link in my post?

Larry,
I used the link to github provided by Vladimir. I will try yours.

Larry,
The version in your file is 1.1.206, the working one I have, not 1.1.207 which has the mouse over access violation.

That's the same copy (1.1.207) I just installed - and it's working for me now.
Did you D/L from here?:

Grab the folder named Win32? ("NanoVNA-App 1.0.207 main.zip\NanoVNA-App-main\Win32") , rename it to "Nanovna-App" and run the exe app from there.
It comes up as 1.1.207

Sorry - the path to the folder should be "Release" - not Win32:
"NanoVNA-App 1.0.207 main.zip\NanoVNA-App-main\Win32\Release"
Rename "Release" to whatever you want and run Nanovna-App from there.
