Locked Talk: An Amateur Radio Power Supply from Junk - Tuesday 30th March 8 pm BST (1900 UTC)
Talk: An Amateur Radio Power Supply from Junk
Alan Drury G4FZP will show us how an old ATX power supply from a PC that would otherwise be destined to the tip can be repurposed and modified. The resulting modification, using only three resistors, is an Amateur Radio Power Supply giving 10A at 13.8V. Note: Please observe safe working practices when working on mains powered equipment, and only do so if you are competent to do so. Tuesday 30th March 2021 8 pm BST (which is 1900 UTC). To find out what time this is where you are, just put 1900 UTC into Google and it will show it in your local time. This event is hosted on Zoom: Meeting ID: 773 073 0073 (No password required) Also Live-streaming on YouTube with live chat: (Bury Radio Society, with Warrington ARC) 73 Trystan G0KAY |
I did wonder about it as well, but perhaps once is okay. There are probably other forums that might be better suited.

Gordon, it may not be directly related, but I do appreciate the YouTube link. Power supplies are the fundamental unit of almost all electronics so maybe we give him a pass for posting this? |
I guess as a group we need to punish the OP by forcing them to drink 1 stout to atone for their misdeed.
I, for one, am certainly glad that I was given notice on the forum even though it seemed a bit out of place and will, also, drink a stout or ale to atone for inappropriately viewing it as a result of having seen it on the forum. (It did give me the opportunity to brush up on listening to the yorkshire dialect as my ancestors left there almost 200 years ago and forced me to live in SoCal - the land of real California surfer babes.) |
Thus, Will, you are a White Rose. The other side of the Pennines is Red Rose territory. And young Trys' penance is to buy a round for the group. Mine's a really nice stout from God's own county, or possibly a particularly excellent Californian Zinfandel.

Would a round of Black Puddings do? (coming from Bury, the home of the Black Pudding, apparently).
I thought as a good technical group, and users of power supplies, then this may have been of interest. It's the only one I've posted on this forum. ;) I hadn't posted here on our talks to do with CW, Summits on the Air (SOTA), QRP, FT8, Flying from the UK to Oz in a light aircraft with a HF radio, building a simple receiver, old Ham gear, Icom IC705, the mcHF Transceiver, Stealth Antennas, or the history of radar. Perhaps I should have posted the Stealth Antennas one on this NanoVNA forum thinking of it. :) Trystan G0KAY |
