Trouble buying from China

I am hearing that some people are not able to buy NanoVNA units from China due to quarantine related issues... has anyone here encounterd this?

Buying is not a problem. Getting it from china to the US is a problem. A lack of available freight aircraft. I noticed that DeepElec has now gone to DHL for shipping rather than use the slow route. Since DHL has their own fleet rather than depending on passenger or cargo aircraft it may help a bunch.

So, where and from whom did you hear this? I am in the importing business and have zero problems importing from anywhere - lead-times on OEM materials are shorter right now if anything. Please send me info on your source of info and perhaps I can get to the bottom of it.

To that point, my NanoVNA-F just arrived - took about 45 days - but earlier than promised by about a month. Watch buyer comments on any source you choose to use.

I doubt that you'll have any issues getting your order but you may be required to pay a higher shipping charge. I regularly purchase from a company based in Hong Kong, On my latest order, under $20 U.S., I was requested to pay an additional $16 U.S. for a "Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Order ....To mitigate the exposure of epidemic...". Since it is not a critical situation that I need those items now, I can wait to get those items until the surcharge is lifted.

I got a NanoVNA from China a few weeks ago (purchased through Ali Express).
It took a long time to get here - about 1 1/2 months.

Reed, you are right. Aexample, i order small low cost items. They used to
come as free economy post. 30 to 50 days.
For a $2 item i feel bad to pay 15$ shipping

Today I received a package from aliexpress that I ordered 22 January, 5 months ago. The package from itead.CC from November last year is missing - they sent another one but it got returned due to "security" reasons. I also wait for a youloop antenna ordered few weeks ago, also bounced back and resent. So yeah, getting registered china post to Europe is not easy now.

A few months ago, I ordered an expensive piece of gear from Europe. Got here in 2 days. Then sat in customs for weeks. I finally started making inquiries, and soon got an email asking what I thought was in the box!! I replied exactly, and the item was released that day. ??? Anyway, all things considered, I was not too inconvenienced. Just funny to think that it was here in 2 days, and then sat.

For Bill,

Have you been following the shipping issues??? I heard about it and am experiencing it. I ordered a NanoVNA-F on Mar 9th. It was a pre-order. It was shipped via Economy. Shipping started on the 14th. Mine was shipped on the 17th and arrived in Singapore on the 21st. It is still in Singapore I guess. That is almost 6 weeks. I have ordered from china before via the same method and received the items in less than 2 weeks. For more info go to the nanovna-f group on groups.io. Read Junes posts.

I ordered a FUNCube Dongle from England last week. Howard shipped it the
next day, FEDEX second-day air. I got it two days later.

I had almost a month getting my nanoVNA from BangGood, but I kept in touch with them and they kept me up to date on any delays. I will not hesitate ordering anything from them again.

Greetings,

I am waiting for several items sent via ~pre-COVID normal~, 2-3 week typical delivery time to Canada, ~ePacket~ and ~AliExpress Standard~ express alternatives. These items have been on order for about 2 months and still have not shown up. Surprisingly some small items I ordered around the same time that were sent via economy shipping are trickling in. According to tracking services several of my express shipment items seem to be stuck in China. Possibly economy shipped items are still arriving via container ships in a somewhat ~pre-COVID normal~ fashion. Possibly in contrast many air shipments are currently stalled due to lack of air cargo space for my relatively low priority mail.

I wonder if there are current day statistics regarding shipment methods from China posted somewhere on the Internet that would shed some light on this situation?

Ordered the NanoVNA-H 4 from Amazon on 5/14, shipped on 5/15, arrived 5/16.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with it.

If the item shipped via Hong Kong, which a lot do, highly likely the hold up is there. One of the postal options seems to be it has no priority and will get put on a plane if there's space. Often this type gets forgotten and lies around in a depot until someone queries it. Chase the supplier up, they can find out what's happening and expedite.

it's not just China. I ordered something in April from an individual in Brisbane, Australia. He gave it to their Postal Service for express air, and it sat "awaiting departure" for a solid month.

Update from Mike, K0JTA:
Picked up and processed May 6 in Hong Kong via DHL, and is now in "CINCINNATI HUB, OH - USA" at this time!!! -Looks as if I will have the shipment in hand VERY soon, unless there is a US Customs delay!!! (Woo-HOO!)

I ordered pcbs that were ready at the end of March, they too got returned to the supplier for "security reasons".

Reshipped 4th April and they are still sitting in some warehouse in Shenzen waiting on the donkey to wake up and transport them to the airport.

Re the shipping out of Australia - pretty normal - our postal service is pretty crap at the best of times, I can get stuff from Germany quicker than I can get it from Sydney.

Question is Mike - why from 6th May to now to get to USA ? Hong Kong is the problem and has been pre Covid too :(

Stevepilot;

It was being held. Apparently, no aircraft cargo space was available until just a very few days ago.

No need to speculate based on anecdotal cases:

not.
