New NanoVNA-H just received

I just received a new nanoVNA-H that I bought from Hugen. And, man, am I impressed. I'm comparing it against clone I got from another source (which has been classified at the worst of the clones). The difference is like night an day. Hugen's came via DHL in a little over 7 days (I ordered it just before the weekend). The instrument itself was packaged in a neat storage box which was then foam wrapped and placed in an outer corrugated container. It was then sent in a DHL envelope. Arrived in fine shape with no damage.

It came with two short coax cables with SMA male connectors each end. The calibration standards and a SMA - SMD female connector. It also came with TWO usb cables, one USB-C mini (micro?) and one USB-A to USB-C mini (micro?).
Most of the clones come with only one USB cable if you get that.

Powering it on and checking the version shows that it has the latest of Hugen's code. Oh, did I say the this instrument is enclosed in a case? Yup. None of the clones seem to have one and you'll pay 12 or 13 dollars for an aftermarket case. That's a bargain right there.

It came with a memory structure map printed on glossy paper. Most of the clones come with nothing.

I might also mention that the battery diode is already installed. No need to open the case to install one like you do on most of the clones.

The only issue I might find is how to open the case if you have to put it in DFU mode to load new software. But, of course, you can select DFU mode from the CONFIG menu. If you DO have to open the case, how to do it isn't intuitive but, then,
I hope I don't have to do that; I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I paid $50 for the clone which came foam wrapped in an envelope and shipped via slow boat from China.

I paid $60 for Hugen's from his store (Alibaba) which came DHL in about 7 days.

Whyin'ell would anyone want to pay $50 for a beat up Ford when you can buy the Cadillac express delivered for $60?

I don't know, but I've learned my lesson.

Gonna go have fun now.

Oh, and I found out how to open the case; there are 4 screws on the back cover. Duh!

An another neat feature I just found searching the box: a wrist strap that you can use to keep the instrument from falling out or your hand while you use it.

Now to tune things up with nanosaver.

A satisfied buyer and, no, I don't own any stock in Hugen's store.

Bruce,
I also purchased the new hugen NanoVNA-H version with case and additional accessories, and second your opinion. The added value of the case, already installed battery monitoring diode, usb-c termination resistors, upgraded firmware (1500 MHz extension, DFU menu, TDR menu, etc.) and additional accessories (didn't even realize the "included guitar pick with lanyard " was actually a useful stylus) is more than worth the slightly higher cost that the old version is selling for.

My only regret is ordering before the new version 3.4 PCB was announced. I guess I'll wait for performance reviews of the new 3.4 version before deciding to purchase it or wait for Gabriel's 3GHz version. Either way, I'm having more fun than I deserve.

Herb,

Am I missing something? I didn't a USB-C termination resistors. Maybe I don't know what I'm looking at.

I thought about waiting for the new version too. But, I didn't want to wait. And I'm glad I didn't. Don't
know what the newer version would have done for me anyway. The "old" version is probably way
beyond my capabilities anyway.

So, am I to understand the NANOVNA-H tops out at 1.5 GHz? If so, what is
the noise floor on an s11 measurement at 1.42 GHz?

Bruce,
You are not missing anything. Like the diode for battery level monitoring, the termination resistors are installed on-board and enable reliable usb-c to usb-c device connection (primarily NanoVNA-H to cellphone). That is the reason for the additional usb-c to usb-c cable in the accessory kit.

Dave,
I think it is generally accepted that s11 return loss values less that 30 dB are the high water mark. On my NanoVNA-H I have a return loss of at least 30 dB up to about 1.3 GHZ. From there it falls off rapidly to 20 dB at 1.5 GHz. Actually, above 1 GHz, I only treat measurements as indicative, but still better than other equipment I currently own.

I have not seen any performance reviews of the new ver 3.4 NanoVNA-H, but hugen says additional noise level improvement have been made. I believe erik has been part of that conversation.

So is the 3.4 version currently available the order and what is the link to
Alibaba?

Roy,
In case you missed it reference message #8700"

" ... hugen's official store is: . Ordering from that store is pretty much the only way you can ensure your NanoVNA-H has the version 3.4 PCB installed unless your third party seller is technically savvy or willing to open the case and check (doubtful).

I haven't ordered from Alibaba because, like you, I would rather use PayPal than give out my credit card. I also don't like the added postal charges for expedient delivery. In some cases, there is even an unexpected sales tax added to the charge.

You can chat with Maggie King at the Alibaba link I referenced earlier and ask if she can recommend a third party supplier of ver 3.4 NanoVNA-H's on eBay. .."

I didn't mind using the credit card. It's pretty protected. And I've seen unbranded clones going for $60 on Ebay. You can get it from Hugen for $50 via slow boat from China. Still need to use a credit card though.

Thank you for your support. Since some European countries charge high tariffs on DHL, we provide postal express. If you buy from Maggie through Alibaba, NanoVNA-H Rev3.4 will be shipped now. If you bought from ebay or Amazon, you can ask the dealer for the hardware version, we have now pasted "HW version: 3.4" on NanoVNA-H rev3.4.

Thanks to the work of AA6KL£¬the 4-inch version of NanoVNA-H is coming soon. Like NanoVNA-H Rev3.4, it can work well up to 1.5GHz.

Hi, any chance you could direct us to one of the ebay sellers that already have v3.4? Earlier I sent a message to Maggie inquiring about this but have not yet gotten a response, and not even sure she might have this information. Thank you.

For sale: Virtually new (2 weeks old) nanoVNA-F from the designer, not a clone. Working fine with VNA-SAVER under WIN7.
$120 INCLUDES SHIPPING. SOLT components included along with the plastic snap case and foam, plastic screen cover.
