Brick my Nano

I think I have to install the drivers first because DFUSe Demo does not "see" my device...I had the same issue and installing drivers did not help. Windows did not recognize device in manner that did not allow it to link it with drivers at all. However, device was properly recognized on other PC without need to manually install drivers. I used that other PC to update firmware and after that, device was visible even on the PC which did not previously recognize it. -- 73, Pedja YT9TP Checkout: |

What are the chances that I brick my NanoVNA when trying to upload a new firmware? ???? Very, very slim, I would say.? There are probably several billion of those processors in use in various gadgets around the world, many of which get updated regularly.? Some people update their Nanos on a near daily basis, and the developers might update several or even dozens of times in a day.? I wouldn't worry about it. |
Dumb Question time ...
I see many comments about updating the firmware, but nothing on a procedure to do so ? Does it automatically update once the Nano senses a firmware update or is there more too it ? I asked that question but got no useful replies.? After some investigation I discovered that updating is not simple.? There are two ways, each requiring special software or hardware.? The hardware is a little item that costs a few bucks and is made by/for one of the manufacturers of the processor.

I also haven't been able to find a program to run from android. Since I am actually happy with the way my nanoVNA works, I probably won't go to the trouble or risk to update it. Bob On Saturday, November 2, 2019, 02:29:22 PM PDT, Dick <w1ksz@...> wrote:

There are instructions there on how to update.? You can do this from Windows (preferred) or Linux a little more involved.? I am investigating a way to do it with Android but that is even less inviting at this point.? ... Dear Bob
This morning I was a bit worried that something could have gone wrong while replacing firmwares. After having read several messages saying that nothing bad could really happen, I decided to give a try. This group includes a wiki section explaining it all. It's just about installing a driver, and an application. If one carefully reads the instructions, it will take not more than 15 minutes the first time, and less than 2 afterwards. I had a good reason to change the firmware, and if you are happy with your device, then its true that it makes not really sense to change something. 73 de HB9IIU |
Hi Dick
All the info can be found in the Wiki section /g/nanovna-users/files/Firmware/Windows%20guide%20on%20how%20to%20write%20firmware.pdf And it works.... 73 de HB9IIU |
Thank you.
And I thought updating the Firmware on the YAESU FTDX-5000 was complex !! Let me read it a few times. Didn't require special anything.

Software might have already been installed. If not type "sudo apt install dfu-util" and it will install. The only hardware required was the cable supplied with the VNA. On 02 November 2019 at 17:36 "Bob Albert via Groups.Io" <bob91343@...> wrote: |
