Manual

Now that I¡¯ve received mine and have begun devouring the posts on this site and other info to learn more and enhance the usefulness of this amazing little kit. I was wondering if there would be interest in starting to put together a ¡°manual¡± that can help everyone here and newcomers on the device. Something maybe in google docs?

Clint Sharp

Yes, emphatically yes. I'm hopeful mime will have arrived by the time I'm
home from work today so I'll need a helping hand and a good manual will be
invaluable.

How do I load the AA firmware? My friend wants to buy one for his antenna analyser work. Manual says it can be done, but no instructions. In fact where is the code?Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Folks,
ALL the information you require is already in the various parts of this forum.

Please use the SEARCH function or look in the FILES and WIKI areas.

There are also links to hugen's google drive area (link) that has ALL THE INFO you need to operate AND flash new firmware!

Check the Wiki for links to documents on how to use a VNA.

Cheers,
Larry

With respect Larry, "search the forum, read the wiki, check these other
documents" sounds like exactly the reason why there needs to be a manual,
to gather that information into a single, concise document that can be
edited and contributed to as the device matures and develops.

Clint - the Wiki IS the manual....

And yes, it DOES have the info members in the last few posts are looking for.

Clint Sharp

So there's no need to search the forum or files section?

:-)...

I agree with Mr Sharp's sentiments, entirely.

I wasn¡¯t looking to stir the pot or anything. It just seems that there is so much fragmented information on the device that it makes it difficult to figure out where to start, especially for someone who has never used a VNA.

As an aside there are also so many variants of the unit, versions of software, vendors to purchase from as well as the messages on this forum not really categorized, it can be daunting.

I¡¯m going to work on a manual time permitting for myself and to share. It¡¯s a learning experience for me as well. Suggestions and contributions welcomed. I feel the device is a wonderful piece of kit that can be a great asset and teaching tool for all hams and tinkerers.

Great! Then let us ALL start contributing to updating the nanoVNA WIKI's various sections.

Vince - You're not stirring the pot ;-)

As Clint stated:
"...there needs to be a manual, to gather that information into a single, concise document that can be

Well, that describes the NanoVNA Wiki.
I have already created a number of entries as have a few others.
In fact, I just added the DFU flashing instruction document link.

Where did I get the info from - I searched the Internet and brought it together in one place.
It's call research - you can learn a lot by sifting through various data sources.

So -
If you look through the 1000+ forum posts and see something of interest that has not been added to the Wiki, add it under the appropriate section as has already been done.
This includes updating the WIKI, LINKS and FILES areas.
There is also a MODS area - if you've seen my posts, I've been modifying my Gecko VNA quite a bit.
Maybe some can create a HOUSING section in the Wiki and place the STL files, or links to them, there? (I just created the folder - let's upload some STL files!)

Sky's the limit - start consolidating the info in one place.
Someone mentioned earlier they wanted to create a table of hardware versions - that hasn't happened yet but essentially there are only 4 versions and various orders of quality in construction and parts used (from what I can see). I will post a photo of the cap I added to DSP reset line on my Gecko along with links to the shields, switches and other changes, to the MODs section.

HOWEVER, I don't want to be the ONLY person doing this.....

I may not understand the question but, between the S11 SWR and Smith Chart displays, the nano comes from the factory with antenna analyzer capability. Were you looking for something else?

No, the nano comes with 3 firmware options. By default the factory set version is 4 tracks 900MHz. I want to change it to the antenna analyzer 2 track version for my friend. It has bigger fonts and a different interface.

There ought to ba a way to have multiple FW images resident and the to select which one gets loaded at start-up time.

Simplest to a "cal" on the range you want ...also can note the "traces" you want ..save to slot 1 thru 4 (your choice) ..turn on ..recall slot ...done ...except for larger font , but ...

My 1st Nano (yes, I do now have two - thanks for the advice Larry) came
with 2-trace antenna analyser firmware. Text is clearer but the only
difference on the interface I have spotted is the last of the Format
options moving to a submenu.

Is there a way to use the Bluetooth Bluevna app with the nano. That interface is much better.Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Be interesting to see a sealed VNA with no display which uses a phone app as the user interface via Bluetooth.
