I found this as a site that helps you order from taobao in english. At least it could find Hugen's Nanovna item w/o any problems.

When you first received the unit, the factory cal should be in memory storage ZERO. You should see a sweep say on the Smith chart from 50 kHz-900 MHz. Did you see this? If the unit is showing NO

I found the problem.
The VNA does have a battery.
The USB cable was bad.
Bought a new cable locally and all seems well now.

There should be a single flashing blue or red LED to indicate the battery is charging when the unit is OFF or ON.
