Re: Firmware and PC application stability #stability #nanovna-h4 #nanovna-h #specifications

Dear @DiSLord, @OneOfEleven @Holger and others
May I suggest new topics with tag #stable and others with #development for your work? And the subject, aldough generic, should point the scope of the topic: "Nanovna-H and H4 Firmware , SD card, LSI and LSE" for example :)

This will help users like me who wants to take part in the testing to give feedback and prevent that too much good information (like how to use, new features, etc) is "lost" in so many user inputs and versions.

I thus want to urge that we pause chasing new features and higher performance,
and work together to release and test stable versions of the firmware and PC
programs. If we don't we risk losing the support of the many users that have
no interest in development and maximum performance, but just want a stable,
usable NanoVNA for their RF and antenna projects work.

Re: NanoVNA-H4 4" LCD Display 50KHz-1.5GHz - is the right one sell on Amazon?

Hello,

The images show nanoVNA-H4, and only Hugen produced the H4 variant, so I assume even if its a clone, its based on Hugen's production.

But at the description one can read Display: 2.8 inch TFT (320 x 240). And "Moligh doll" was never mentioned as "official" Hugen's seller/store.

Please check the seller details:

It seems its located in GUANG DONG , China.

Will you pay customs taxes?

Not understand. All my code open on git you can use it.
Last stable code (96k mode and SD card support, and UI) also on github and open.

Or i must add on my github every my test option?

Or ... i should support code? But sorry for this need a lot of time, and this not my main work.

The nanovna is there, just take one and hook it up.

NanoVNA-H4 4" LCD Display 50KHz-1.5GHz - is the right one sell on Amazon?

Hello dear hobby colleagues.

I would like to buy NanoVNA-H4 4" LCD Display 50KHz-1.5GHz and I found this
one on Amazon:

Please, I address you the following question: is this the original device,
or is it a clone?
Another ham-radio friend of mine advised me to buy from Alibaba.
What is your opinion?

Thank you!

@Dislord: do you still consider the project open-source?

Re: Firmware and PC application stability #stability #nanovna-h4 #nanovna-h #specifications

I try see git history and write it.

When I started making fixes for the firmware, I didn't think about full code support. My fixes were added to Edy555's repository. After 0.8, he stopped following the project. For myself, I made corrections, but did not make releases. At the moment, I plan to bring it to 192k mode and make a stable release (I think that now I understand the reasons for the freezes, during the 768k tests I began to receive them more often, but with low BW no) and I think to reduce the frequency change rate.

Then maybe I will gradually finish the rest.

Re: NanoVNA firmware user interface mod #mods

OneOfEleven
Is it possible to copy the information from the SD card to the computer using nanovna.exe?
A new feature, I mean.
Thank you.

Re: NanoVNA firmware user interface mod #mods

For me the update works with FW DiSlord.
Latest version nanovna.exe and FW DiSlord.
"Upload Firmware File" to choose the FW to upload.
Thank you for your work.

Re: Firmware and PC application stability #stability #nanovna-h4 #nanovna-h #specifications

@OneOfEleven and @DiSlord

Could I ask that you create a StableRelease repository in your GITHUB accounts and load the version's source code, (updated) build instructions for Windows, Ubuntu and MacOS, as well as the relevant DFU's files in there.

We can the point all new users to these to update their devices, rather that they try an make sense of all our development exchanges and tests.

Appreciate you assistance

RandMental

Those are the .dfu binaries, in open-source projects sources are important (as you may build the binaries out of them)..
Could you at least indicate which commits builds those binaries?
Thanks.

Re: Firmware and PC application stability #stability #nanovna-h4 #nanovna-h #specifications

That is a great idea - I guess the typical approach of having a master (stable) repository, and one or more development focused repositories would be a great start.

Re: NanoVNA-H(4): IF value vs ADC frequency?

Dear DiSlord,

Thank you very much for the information!

My NanoVNA-H is on the v1.0.12beta now, I'll try 4kHz, 8kHz and 12kHz IFs and report what I see.

Warm regards,
Anton

Re: NanoVNA-H(4): IF value vs ADC frequency?

I test IF 24k (v.1.0.10) and IF 28k (v.1.0.11), old 12k you can see in v.1.0.9

Best results at this moment show 28k.

Anyway IF freq can be any, at this moment in last v.1.0.12 firmware you can send command:
'offset 12000'
For set 12k IF

IF step depend from ADC speed 192k and buffer sample size (48 measures), 192k/48 = 4k
So at this firmware IF can be 4k, 8k, 12k, ...... 28k max (top limit i think is internal filter in AIC for this mode)

Offset not stored in config, and reset after restart

Re: Firmware and PC application stability #stability #nanovna-h4 #nanovna-h #specifications

Sounds like a good idea to me :)

All I've really been doing is sharing what I've been doing for my own use, and adding what I can that others have requested, though difficult to keep up with demand at times, phew.

Re: NanoVNA-H(4): IF value vs ADC frequency?

Would be helpful to have a "standard measurement procedure and setup" to compare the various fw and hw versions against each other.
The experts here should suggest how to do it, imho.

Re: Program crashes

This is good news :)

<wipes brow>

Does the current version crash I wonder ? .. I'm on v0.1.63 at the moment.

the radio displayed 1.4... I did reset/recalibrate and still same result.

So I did try to compare my VNA with my IC7300 on my home station HF antenna.
Sometime reading are out but most of the time, really close or near perfect

Hi Alezis

Does your ICOM have an antenna tuner of any kind built in I wonder ? .. that would change everything.

Also, when you move the antenna between the ICOM and the VNA is the way the coax is grounded changed at all ? .. some coax/antenna arrangements can have a big dependency on the grounding method (if any is used), but knowing nothing of your setup I can only guess at the moment.

Is the coax acting like an antenna in anyway do you think ? .. ie not entirely baluned/choked from the antenna.
