Re: Protective Case for H4

The lid is in the picture to the right of the base and NanoVNA. I keep the case and accessories in a canvas zipper bag with allows for additional adapters for different kinds on cables you may come across. If it works for you like it does me, feel free to print it.

Of course *which* adapters is a very loaded question.

For the moment the very nice box it came in will do for me. Eventually I'll probably put it in a Pelican style case with a bunch of other test gear. If the FNIRSI scope gets hacked so there is better FW, a nanoVNA, FNISRI-1013D, F***Tech 6800 hacked to use a self contained LiPo battery, BSIDE ESR02 Pro and a DMM would make a really nice compact field day support kit.

Rees,
At 1dB/div, a REFERENCE POSITION value of 14 puts a -10dB response at mid-screen. Is that what you are looking for, or do you want a more intuitive entry method?

It may be that this OFFSET menu is discussed earlier but is perhaps not

Or the OFFSET value may be implemented in a PC application like NanoVna Saver?

Re: NanoVNA Saver 0.3.3 or 0.3.4

Try NanoVNA-Saver 0.2.2-1, as far as I know it is 32 bit and an exe is available for windows. It works when the newer versions won't.

Re: NanoVNA Saver 0.3.3 or 0.3.4

Hello, I need help. I have a NanoVNA-H which goes to 900 MHZ which I purchased from GigaParts . I ordered that to use while waiting for my NanoVNA V2 from Tindie which should arrive very soon. As discussed many times the 3.2" screens is a little small for my 72 year old eyes. So, I am trying to install NanoVNA-Savor on one of my computers for seeing better and have flexibility. I have used a MiniVNA successfully for years.

Just so that you know what I am dealing with:

I have tried to load NanoVNA-Savor on three different computers -- four operating systems. They are.
a. MacBook Pro with Version 10.15.5
b. Same computer with Windows 7 Pro via VMware Fusion version 11.5.1
c. laptop with Windows 7 Pro 32 bit (for ham programs requiring a PC)
d. desktop with Windows 7 Pro 32 bit (my shack computer)

Any one of these would have been helpful.

I first tried to load Savor on "b" which loaded and opened. I then tried to connect it to the NanoVNA. It did not work. The USB cable that came with it was "C" on both ends -- useless. I found three other "C" to "A" cables non of which worked. I discovered that all of them were power only cables. I ordered a proper C to A and connected to the NanoVNA. After being connected for two seconds the program crashed (just quit completely). I started with version 0.3.4 and then tried version 0.3.6 both crashed after about two seconds. The 0.3.6 version was from just before it became the latest version yesterday.

Meanwhile I decided to load 0.3.4 on my laptop "c". It did not work because the program will only work on a 64 bit machine.

Then I tried to load it on my shack computer "d". same results

But, I did not know that the program would not work on a 32 bit machine.

For those of you who post on GitHub, please identify your posting with the fact that it is only for 64 bit machines, or whatever would be appropriate. It took me three days to figure that out. Someone said it on another we site and I finally found it here.

Then I tried to load it onto my MacBook Pro "a". There was an installation hint -- "If using binaries on Mac or Linux you have to chmod +x nanovan-saver after
unzipping as executable flags get lost with zip." I managed to open a terminal and after two or three tries I think I did the above. However, I don't know what to do now. What I like aboutMac computers is that I get a program with a .dmg file. I execute it and it works. Sometimes I have done the above in a terminal but usually with some help. Could you put a link to a step by step process of making this work?

Obfuscated -- that is one of my favorite term. To me it means that the obvious is obscured by all the verbiage. I have been trying to make this work on several platforms for several days without success.

Please don't assume that your audience knows and understand how to do these things. I have been a power user of computers for many years. However, I don't under stand code or how to use these procedures.

Yes, I am complaining some. Please forgive me. I think you can see why I am so frustrated. Any help would be appreciated. My number one goal would be to have Savor work on this computer "a" in either the Mac side or in Windows 7.

Thanks, Joe

There have been instances of companies shipping cheap cables that fail quickly. You might also want to open the H4 housing and using a magnifying glass, make sure there are no solder shorts around the usb connector.

Have you installed the drivers?
The nanoVNA uses a serial to USB device to convers on USB. Check out FTDI for the latest drivers.

With Win7 you need to manually install the driver. See the Wiki in this group for details..

Re: H4 communication Issue

Thanks for the response!

On the cable, just got a new fancy one from amazon and tried it this morning before sending out my email. I was hopeful that it would work and it did not.......then emailed the group.

I have opened the unit and looed to see if there was anything obvious and there was not. Also that way I could make sure the USB-C was fully engaging and it looked like it was.

Will open up again, this time with the headset on and look for a bad connector, connection, or solder as you suggest.

Thanks again!
Phil

Re: NanoVNA firmvare, compiled by DiSlord #firmware with MiniSD support #firmware

At this moment as you can see i update UI and next release name as v1.0.1
UI fixes still not fully comleted (for see changes need reset config for apply new colors)

Re: NanoVNA firmvare, compiled by DiSlord #firmware with MiniSD support #firmware

@DiSlord - let me ask you kindly following - your H4 branch fw version string comes from
"git describe --tags" which shows always 0.7.1...
What would you recommend to put in the VERSION string such I know what fw version has been flashed into my H4?

Try test 200-350MHz range for better search threshold limit.

PS then i work under H4 vs SI5351+SI4432 i rewrite sweep mode, now it use band table for better ajust settings
I think remove threshold as value and use this table
typedef struct {
uint32_t mode; // mode for SI5351 for set frequency (fixed PLL or fixed Multiplexer divider)
uint32_t freq; // max freq for band
union {
uint16_t div; // divider for fixed Multiplexer mode
uint16_t pll_n; // PLL n for fixed PLL mode
};
uint16_t mul; // Harmonic for main frequency
uint16_t omul; // Harmonic for offset frequency
uint16_t pow; // power (not need)
uint16_t l_gain; // l gain for AIC ADC (ref data)
uint16_t r_gain; //r gain for AIC ADC (measure data)
// uint16_t freq_align; // Not use, frequency align on set
} band_strategy_t;

It allow more easy select sweep settings for every frequency range, but more difficult then now (used threshold step)
Now used this table (for 300MHz threshold)
/*
* Frequency generation divide on band
* Band 1
* 800~10kHz fixed PLL = XTALFREQ * PLL_N_1, fractional divider
* Band 2
* 10kHz~100MHz fixed PLL = XTALFREQ * PLL_N_2, fractional divider
* Band 3
* 100~130MHz fractional PLL = 800-1040MHz, fixed divider 'fdiv = 8'
* Band 4
* 130~170MHz fractional PLL = 780-1080MHz, fixed divider 'fdiv = 6'
* Band 5
* 680~300MHz fractional PLL = 680-1200MHz, fixed divider 'fdiv = 4'
*
* For FREQ_HARMONICS = 300MHz - band range is:
* +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
* | Band 2 | Band 3 | Band 4 | Band 5 | Band 3 | Band 4 | Band 5 |
* +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
* | Direct mode x1 : x1 | x3 : x5 | x5-x7 | x7-x9 | x9-x11 |
* +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
* |10kHz - 100MHz | 100 - 130MHz | 130 - 170MHz | 170 - 300MHz | 300-390MHz | 390-510MHz | 510-900MHz | 900-1500MHz | 1500-2100MHz | 2100-2700MHz |
* +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
* | f = 50kHz-300MHz | f=100-130 | f=130-170 | f=170-300 | f=180-300 | f=214-300 | f=233-300 |
