Re: V2 Design #nanovna-v2

NanoVNA saver basically behaves identical when controlling V1 or V2. At least during a short test
Tapr-VNA also behaves identical
The Xana derived SW works well and has to be used if you want to upgrade the firmware without ST-Link or similar.

Re: V2 Design #nanovna-v2

There are three options.
The V2 comes with its own PC SW derived from the Xana vna.
Next the best known option is nanoVNA saver as it was extended to be able to control the V2
And I have made Tapr-VNA also V2 compatible

Erik can you tell me what software you are using with the SAA-2 and how well the software works compared to using the NanoVNA?

Thanks,

Can you send a screen shot of your " badly twitching display " ?

Re: V2 Design #nanovna-v2

5 pieces for $3.98 each is no 4 Euro !

Both the original nanoVNA and the V2 fit perfect in the 100x60x25mm box you can find very cheap on eBay. Example: 5 for 4 Euro

My plastic manipulation skill are not perfect but the unit is well protected and at such a price per box its no problem if you destroy one.
Just make a hole in the click in cover and some holes in the side for USB and SMA. As there is no battery no need to expose the switch.

Re: V2 Design #nanovna-v2

If a remember correctly the BOM cost is $10.
I suspect that most people would gladly pay a few bucks more for a full
package.
Sourcing batteries from China is a hassle (shipping restrictions) and
finding a reliable
source for good quality adapters and cables is a gamble. So far 80% of the
cables or
connectors that I ordered on AliExpress were junk or fake.

With time, when others start to manufacture clones, they will be forced to
provide a full kit
at the same price point.

Thanks for sharing.
It's unfortunate that people would rather complain than read the
designer's posts about attempting to meet a certain price point.
This release is a great starting point for early adopters and it can only
get better.

Hi Kurt,
I purchased the battery from a local market. Have a look.
The Tindie seller hasnt shipped the package yet. Meanwhile I shall keep all things ready.

Hi Salil
Found one, however LiPo but I believe is will work as well as Li-ion

Its available on Tindie. Just order two from there instead of going through the SZ seller I was planning earlier.

Hi Salil
I ordered one too, and are now searching for a Li-ion battery 1000-2000mAh max dimension 6x40x60mm preferably with JST-XH 2.54mm connector. Have you found any ?
Kind regards
Kurt

Re: Wireless control of NanoVNA

Hi,

I tried rasberry zero wh with nanovna. No succes. I use Raspbian. Graphical user interface very slow, without nanovna. I try command line only mode and rtl_sdr tcp server. Extreme slow, simply not usable, I am disappointed. I try RPI to configure wifi ap mode + ser2net. Not easy way, no succes too. Hard very long manuals, with some not working commands.

See next email, I switch to Android with good succes.

===============================

Lajos,

The RPi Zero WH is the lowest powered, smallest memory unit in the range. 512 MB, single-core. If using a graphical interface, I would suggest the 3B+ or 4 as a much more suitable RPi.

I have also had problems with ser2net and similar software.

More sweep points, excellent!

Greater frequency range, good but why no 10 kHz?

However, low cost has meant some sacrifices:

- small display, despite many requests that it be larger.

- no box, the unit is naked and rather delicate.

- micro USB rather than USB-C, so incompatible with all the other units.

- no battery!

- no SMA cables.

I would be very interested in a unit covering past 2.5 GHz, but for these reasons, I'll wait on a more complete unit.

Sadly, after I installed it, all I get is a badly twitching display. Can you tell who to turn to for fixing that ?

Subject: Re: [nanovna-users] Measuring Nano Inductance

I suggest you use the PC program NanoVNA Saver because it has several different display panels. One is R+jX which will give you the Resistance (which will rise with frequency due to the skin effect) and X-Reactance. The other one to select is a display of Inductance vs Frequency which does the conversion from reactance to inductance for you.

For a 100 nH inductor you are probably using an air wound coil so you won't see that much change in inductance with frequency. However, inductors made with toroids will because the permeability of the core goes down with frequency.
