Agreed. It’s wonderful device for the money.

I am 99.99% sure that the $17 are a scam. I bought one for $20 or so, but I
don’t believe that it will ever arrive.

Thank you. The 30 MHz lower end on frequency m would limit its usefulness
to me.

There are a *lot* of designs coming out for VNAs.

The main work looks to be in the software - perhaps the reason software
options can cost more than the hardware for commercial VNAs.. I believe a
Keysight FieldFox with all the software options would cost more than twice
the price of the same instrument with no software options.

Some firmware versions, 0.2.0 to 0.2.2, could show some problems with
repeated "sweep" commands with no or short delay between them. It should be
fixed in 0.2.3, so maybe that's it?

There were some older firmware versions that had significant data transfer
problems, I think back in August or so. Could be it as well. But if you're
not seeing it when using other software, it's not obvious what the reason
is.

I am of course using nanovna-saver for serious measurements! Were it not for your excellent app the nanovna would be gathering dust in my desk drawer by now.

I started this somewhat academic exercise with nanovnasharp to see if a native windows app that depends on a windows device driver could be made to run on linux using Wine.

What I found of course is that it will not work if there is no equivalent driver available in linux.

So this gave me an excuse to try out virtualbox.

Do you have any theories as to why there is lost scan data? I saved .s1p and .s2p files and opened them with nanovna-saver and the corruption was still there. There's nothing useful in the virtualbox logs so am at a bit of a loss to explain it.

I'm not trying to convert anyone, but is there any particular reason you're
not using NanoVNA-Saver, which runs natively on Linux? :-)

Nanovnasharp will run on Linux Mint 19.2 using virtualbox, which emulates everything right down to the hardware, so it is possible to install a Windows kernel mode driver.

Here's the steps...

- create a new 32 bit virtual machine running Win7+SP1
- enable USB on the VM for the STMicroelectronics Virtual COM Port
- run the VM
- install dotnet40
- install VCP_V1.5.0_Setup_W7_x86_32bits.exe which created COM3
- run NanoVNA.exe
- switch on the nanovna
- hit Connect - worked first time!
- hit Get Data - it sort of works.

Unfortunately there is some corruption of the data as received by the application. There is no corruption on the screen of the nanovna itself.

Attached 2 pictures; good shows what it should look like, bad is what it looks like 9 out of 10 scans. The anomalous spikes appear in apparently random places and in varying number on the scan.

There is a 7MHz BPF connected to the nanovna.

Has anyone seen anything similar with this app?

The current firmware has problems measuring above 900MHz.
As example below a 1000 point scan of the "Open"
In my home build VNA I found that increasing the IF could help reducing noise.
As a test I increased the IF in the nanoVNA from 5kHz (as used in the first scan) to 12kHz.
As you can see in the second scan, using the same calibration data, the performance has increased.
There is more to test before I can release this.
Sadly this change does not help above 1.5GHz. Either the bridge has lost all directivity of the remaining SNR is too low to get a relevant signal

and they are selling 3d printers for the same price, delivered. I really don't think so. I will give this one a miss.

The NooElect ad mentions a case too but I don't see it pictured. Think I'll order one. You can never have too many nanoVNAs.

From the picture, this version is very similar to the version I made, obviously not from ttrftech (edy555), and they made some mistakes to the picture. There is a high probability of fraud, please be cautious!

I think it just means that they are the first to get "authorized" to sell for ttrftech which seems to be associated with edy555 the original designer. I have had good experiences with nooelec and think that they are okay. For the extra money it looks like you some extra cables and attenuators. I wonder if the cal kit is better than the usual one?

Unfortunately they only ship within the continental USA but they have a really nice selection at good prices.?

Try to save 2 times in a row.
I use this firmware on my two devices, it is used by my friend, there are no problems. Perhaps you are not using a reset during calibration.
