Re: Semi-bad clone?
Hi John, Mike,
Several folks have done various measurements including myself. Measurements and records between big box VNA and the nanoVNA would be of interest. However, that said, my best guess is that the agreement below a few hundred MHz will be excellent. For the most part that is what I have found although I did not bother with making recordings of the sweeps between instruments. I expect as you approach 900 MHz that the deviation between measured on big box vna and the nanoVNA will be larger. The simple fact is due to the accuracy and records stored for the calibration pieces. The SMA short, open and 50 ohm load, I SUSPECT are treated as ideal elements. They are certainly not ideal. I am in the process of finding out from the developer how these calibration pieces are handled. Regards, Alan |
Re: Nanovna seller Lusya on Aliexpress, anyone tried Lusya?
Hi.
Got my from Lusya/Aliexpress on the last week. Its in black color with battery and USB-C connector. Was ordered in begin of June. Just one note - included 50 Ohm dummy load looks like was used... Its have some scratch on hex part. VNA device, open and shorted loads is 100% new. Working well at all. Best instrument for price/options, imho. 73, Serge |
Re: firmware reload
Yes, the various clones 'should' work the same way.
As for placing your unit into DFU mode, the contacts only need to be shorted at power-up, that is why I soldered a small button switch there. After power-up and you have the white screen, you can release the button. I've pushed firmware to my unit several times using this method. I used a button from a scrap cellphone - see photo Good luck! |
Re: firmware reload
No problem. Larry mentioned the Gecko version in his explanation but the
black ones should work in exactly the same way. Mike On Fri, 19 Jul 2019, 18:35 herbieg via Groups.Io, <herbieg= [email protected]> wrote: hi mike |
Re: firmware reload
Updating F/W on the white Gecko unit is simple:
I placed a momentary push button switch on my unit - see my previous posts and photos. You'll need to ensure the DFU driver is installed. Do this by: -Install all the uP drivers - you should see the pop-up windows as in my previous posts -all drivers are in the "DFU Utility - STSW_STM32080_V3.0.6.zip" file -Install the DFUdemo utility "DfuSe_Demo_V3.0.6_Setup" -turn OFF the NanoVNA and short the DFU terminals/pads on the edge of the board -turn ON the NanoVNA and you will see only a white display - that's OK -plug the NanoVNA USB into your PC - it should recognise the VNA is in DFU mode -run the DfuSe_Demo and follow the instructions in its PDF file (attached) -after pushing F/W, reset the calibrations and re-calibrate per Hugen's remarks in previous posts. ALL of the above can be had just by reading through the previous posts in this forum...... |
Re: firmware reload
Hi Herbie, I don't think anyone responded to you about loading firmware.

I haven't tried it yet but Hugen kindly shared a link to his manuals in an earlier post, one of which explains how to update by shorting two contacts together. (See the firmware folder.) "This is the user manual Regards Mike -----Original Message-----

Re: Semi-bad clone?
Hi John
I'll report back when I can but it may not be for a week or two. I know two other people with more expensive VNAs. One cost >?1k but is suspect, despite having just been 'repaired'. The owner of the other one is heading off on hols for a week. I hope you got the full calibration set btw. Mine was missing the short and the seller hasn't responded to my ebay message. :-( 73 Mike On Fri, 19 Jul 2019, 09:01 John Woods via Groups.Io, <g1euh= [email protected]> wrote: Hi Mike |
