Re: Advice on which FW to load SAA-2N v2_2

and works with nanovna _app (version 210 used here)

and that is in my view the best of them

ps .. the n sockets are adaptors from sma to n and are NOT well secured to the case .. so do not put tooo much force on them!!

Hello, I have the problem with the nno vna h, that the submenus no longer work.
I was calibrating a range of frequencies, and I stopped. since then the submenus no longer appear. It is practically unusable.
I tried to clean the screen from dust but nothing.

Re: 2 poles filters teminaison impedance

Gerard,

It is important to get the correct termination impedance for a crystal bandpass filter. The resistance and capacitance are in parallel and both have an effect on the filter characteristics. If the load R is too high or too low the filter will shift up or down in frequency. If load C is too high or too low the filter passband characteristics will change and you can get more ripples. You can see all of this in this Murata animated crystal filter video

There are 3 ways to get the proper termination impedance for the crystal filter: RC matching, LC/CL matching or Transformer matching. >> .

The author of that video is using LC matching but he made a mistake in his calculations. He used the wrong calculator and got the wrong value for the matching C. The steps for correct calculation are as follows:

1. The R and C specified by the manufacturer are in the form R//C so a parallel to serial impedance conversion is required at the filter center frequency. This calculator will do the conversion.

In your case 4000 ohms with 1.5 pF in parallel at 45 MHz. equates to 1031 ohms in series with 2.021 pF or Z= 1031 -j1750. We need to match to the complex conjugate of this which is Z = 1031 +j1750.

2. Next we need to design the matching network. This is a typical calculator which gives several matching options

Two solutions are provided: One is L in series and the other is C in series (DC blocking). The calculated values are 1.572uH and 9.358 pF for the former and 1.968uH and 7.957 pf for the latter. Using either of these will results in a termination that looks like 4000 ohms in parallel with 1.5 pf when the matching network is terminated in 50 ohms.

Re: NanoVNA-h4 stuck in DFU mode

this is what i see when i have the ZadiG, device manager, and DFuse.exe running. when i use DFUSE.exe i am not able to select the device to upload the new FW version to.

Re: Advice on which FW to load SAA-2N v2_2

Well, I gave it a shot and the vna would not boot. Also found DfuSe is not compatible with this device. Have to use VNA-QT and .bin files, found usable firmware here:

Running DiSlord 1.3.07 now.

Re: NanoVNA-h4 stuck in DFU mode

Terry; thanks for the info but no luck with my unit. i was able to get the driver for my device to finally install in Windows 10 after i performed the above so thats a plus. now to get the firmware to install...

Re: Advice on which FW to load SAA-2N v2_2

why not use the version from dislord?

/g/nanovna-beta-test/attachment/3972/3/V2%20480x320%20v1.3.09.bin

AS FAR AS I KNOW THAT IS THE MOST ACTUAL

dg9bfc sigi

sidenote ... saa2n is a "normal" v2 with a 4 inch screen ... not a "h"and not a "h4" model!!

Not sure the difference between the H, H4, MS or SI versions. Thanks for any help.

Re: 2 poles filters teminaison impedance

Heelo,

I remade a model. Finally I get a result. The work always pays off.
The filter seems well centered on 45MHZ with 12.5Khz of bandwidth at about -3db. The adjustment of variable capacitors is super accurate. I would have to find another model to better adjust.
The slope is not exceptional, the opportunity to launch on a 4 poles by assembling 2. LOL

Hello DiSlord,

works perfectly!!!!!

Thank you very, very much for your good job!!!!

Hello,

First) look at with video.

Second) I go back to my 45mhz filter.
First the 45R15AZ is given as equivalent to the 45M15A, or 4Kohm/ 1.5pf impedance.
Not having had conclusive results by taking directly the schematic of the Ubitx filter (By modifying the values to adapt to my filter) or with resistors, I wonder if the schematic of it is not to be modified?
I wonder if the 0.1 ?f capacitor c215 should not be inverted with inductance L5?
Take more inspiration from the video diagram (DC or not?) as on the 2nd image

Re: SMA coax cables the kit came with -

Thank you all!

I ended up grabbing one like this from the uber-large US seller:
(I don't like to advertise, so snip above)

I initially wrongly got RG400 cables thinking they'd be as slim and
flexible as the RG316, but I was obviously wrong. I needed these cables for
bench duty - interconnects between units, replacing rigid lines inside
units while servicing, etc. The RG316 is amazing at how inconspicuous it is
in this type of duty.

Thanks again all!
Radu.

Just
search for rf coax

I like the convenience of how skinny and flexible these cables are. I
hate
thick, rigid cables, that make everything difficult, add bulk, and move
instrumentation from wherever it is to their most convenient bend radius.
I'd like to add some more SMA cables to my bench and not sure what to
look
for.

Thank you!

Re: SMA coax cables the kit came with -

Save yourself the grief and buy them with SMA already
installed. There are a few US manufacturers over on that
auction site that make them up in various lengths.

Re: DiSlord's 1.2.14; Smith Chart Marker Format

Use DISPLAY->FORMAT .... ->SMITH (need select it) and on next click SMITH need select value format

DiSlord's 1.2.14; Smith Chart Marker Format

Hi,

I just upgraded to the newest version. It's DiSlord's 1.2.14.
I recognized, that the smith chart marker now displays the impedanze (R +/-jX) and not the value of C or L in pF or nH.
Is there a setting, to get back the value of the capacity or inductivity?

Thanks in advance!

Uwe

You can buy ready-made SMA cables from Amazon and AliExpress (or similar).

For example:

There are PTFE variants:

Two things to watch out for:
- when using cables, calibrate with the cables in place for best accuracy.
- be sure not to buy "SMA-RP" cables. These have the male/female pins/socket
reversed. RP is reverse polarity:
