Which specific developer and firmware version number is this guide for?

Re: New NanaVNA-H4 User #nanovna-h4

You have the latest firmware loaded to your copy of the H4, hence the different menu structure.
It is actually a very nice version of firmware as it implements new handy features and work very well.

Welcome to the NanoVNA world!

Be ready to spend an enormous amount of time with it, it is quite addictive :-)

Re: Firmware updates.

Hi Roger,
I'll have a look at the source on Fri.
?I finally got DiSlord's H4 1.0.48 code to compile today.

I'll see how the fonts look. I .did. load Hugen's code on my 2.8" unit last week but didn't like it so I loaded DiSlord's 1.0.48 on it.?

Have you compared the DisLord and Hugen firmware version 1.0.45 on a -H4?? Apparently the Hugen version uses larger font sizes but I don't know if that is the case on the -H4.

I am currently using the DisLord version on a -H4 and it works great but if the fonts are easier to read with these old eyes i will upgrade.

Re: Firmware updates.

Guys,

I have done firmware updates for many different devices over the year since flash chips became mainstream. Once you get your ducks in a row the Nana/Tiny updates are among the easiest ever. There really isn't any reason NOT to do it and very good reasons TO do it.

If Michael wants to use some of the newer PC applications, he will need to upgrade the firmware or things may not work properly.
Yes, he can stay with the older apps, but OneofEleven's Nano-App.exe needs at least 1.0 or greater firmware.
Michael - it's actually very easy to flash - just follow the guides.? Grab the newbie guide.

You cannot 'brick' the device - I proved this to another user when I pulled the USB cable in the middle of an update. All I did was to short the BOOT-0 pins to place the unit into DFU mode again and re-flashed the device. The only caveat is to make sure you use H FW on an H device, H4 FW on an H4 device and F FM on an F device.
You have an H device so download the 1.0.45 zip file from the forum files area, unzip and flash the H version to your device.
I compile and flash my own changes - once you've dome it a couple of times - you got it!

Should be just a self contained executable in there. Just put it on your

desktop or in a folder of your choice and double click on it. No

installation required.

I just use a 5x5x1.5" food storage box from Dollarama. It fastens down with two tabs on each side and has a rubber gasket. $3 0r $4. I need my Plano for fishing tackle!

New NanaVNA-H4 User #nanovna-h4

I just received my NanoVNA-H4 from R & L Electronics. I haven't even had time to do any testing of it as yet but did want to post my thoughts on this new unit. First of all, it appears to be very well built. I've attached photo I took of the Version screen. I noticed right away that the menu structure map included in the box does not match what I am seeing on my new NanoVNA-H4. So, I put together my own version of the menu structure and have uploaded that to the forum under the files section. It's titled "/g/nanovna-users/files/NanoVNA%20Menu%20Structure%20Map-x.pdf".

Other than what I have read on this forum and the many videos about the NanoVNA, I am a complete newbie in this arena. I have a lot of learning ahead of me but am looking forward to the day I have gained some proficiency on this device.

That's a great idea to mark it... I have a few telescopic antenna's I use on scanners, and always just guesstimate.

Re: Sun Shield?

Unlike a cellphone, these little devices don't need photographic-quality displays, too bad frontlit LCDs are not cheaper and better than they are.

Re: Sun Shield?

The barn doors available on some photography LED light's casing, repurposed as a sunshade, may be an option for some. If not available separately, it's obviously really only an option if you can find one cheap/non-functioning.
