Re: Nanovna and Amazon Fire 10 tablet
There is an android app (fire tablets run android in the backend) that can
control it but it¡¯s complicated to get the google play store to work on a fire tablet. On Fri, Dec 25, 2020 at 9:07 PM john marks via groups.io <kb4uxc= [email protected]> wrote: Can I connect the nano to my Fire tablet and use the larger display and73, Tripp Sanders K5TRP |
Re: Assorted NanoVNA-H4 observations
One other note: In the NanoVNASaver software, I am getting very strange TDR values for cable length. I've entered the correct cable Velocity Factor, but it seems like each time I restart the software a new value is shown (attached to the same antenna, of course). Has anyone else seen this?

Assorted NanoVNA-H4 observations
1. In playing with my NanoVNA-H4, I got to the point where I felt I should just reset to original settings and start over. I found that simply re-flashing firmware was not enough to reset the device...at least not re-flashing the same firmware version that had previously been installed. Doing this resulted in no change to my messed up settings. I needed to flash an earlier version of firmware, then flash again with the target version, before the unit appeared to go back to the original state. So, if you are hoping for a complete reset, keep this in mind.
2. I was trying out the NanoVNA Saver 0.3.8 software, and for some reason the software was resetting the NanoVNA back to 101 sweep points (DisLord's firmware allows up to 401 sweep points). The NanoVNA Saver software would state that 401 Sweep points were being used, but the display on the Nano would say 101. I couldn't figure out how to fix this, and this was the main reason I decided to reset the firmware. Perhaps this was just due to some messed-up configuration I had incurred. 3. Question: Does the calibration offered in the NanoVNA Saver software do exactly the same thing as running the calibration from the NanoVNA itself? I've read conflicting info about this-- some sources say the calibration is the same, others say it is better to calibrate directly on the NanoVNA. 4. Related question: Is it necessary to re-calibrate for each band and save those calibration settings to a separate memory slot (Slot0, Slot1, etc.? Again, I read different things -- I thought it WAS necessary to recalibrate for each band, but in the NanoVNA Saver software documents it says "A calibration of both ports across the entire frequency span, saved to slot 0, is sufficient." S I am now unsure about this. If I want to measure SWR and impedance for a variety of antennas in the HF 80m to 6m range, would one calibration from 80m-6m be sufficient (saved to one slot), or should I calibrate each band separately into the 5 available slots (such as 80M->Slot0, 40m->Slot1, 20m->Slot2, 10m->Slot3, 6m->Slot4)? It's actually pretty fun to figure this little device out. |

Wow. Thank you for providing that. I got one a few months ago and have done very little with it.

Issue with NanoVNA-App s1p and s2p files

First, great thanks to OneOfEleven for introducing SOLT calibration functions in the recent versions of NanoVNA-App. I use it successfully with my H and V2 NanoVNAs. The following comment is about 1.1.206 version, but is also applicable to older versions.
After saving s1p or s2p data files thanks to the dedicated buttons, I have seen that none of these files can be opened correctly with an other application (saver, sharp, partner, spa, etc.) So I have opened valid snp files got from saver ans sharp through a text editor, and have compared the content from files got with NanoVNA-App. The explanation is simple : the decimal separator in NanoVNA-App snp files is a comma instead of a dot for all other files. I have changed all commas to dots, and after it works normally. I hope that I have not forgot something in the settings of NanoVNA-App, related to a such tweaking. I know that these regional parameters are often a source of problems in many cases : OS, spreadsheet softwares ... A last word : after testing NanoVNA-App and also TinySA-App in Win7/10 OS, I have tried them in a Wine environment under Ubuntu. They work correctly for most of the function, with little UI bugs, but not really annoyable. Regards, and best wishes to all for 2021. Jean-Roger / F6EGK |
