Re: Question about Calibration document

As stated, the purpose of placing the second 50 ohm load on port S21 is to improve the isolation calibration.

The next best thing (which is fine) is to put the open SMA calibration connector on the S21 port during isolation calibration. This will reduce possible interference from an outside source. Having a 50 ohm external load on S21 will lower the net impedance on S21 input and may slightly reduce RF leakage across the PCB board from the S11 port. Since there is internal resistor padding on the S21 input this effect is small.

Beside interference reduction, the other benefit of a 50 ohm termination is to provide input termination to represent nominal input thermal noise level to S21 port. With the internal resistor attenuator padding on the S21 input this external 50 ohm termination has little effect on NE612 input noise termination, so the open load connector is fine to shield the input.

Re: NanoVNA Testboard kit VNA Test Demo Board #applications

Hi,

If one has that basic soldering skills you could build these for less than
4USD, specially if you just build the test fixture.

Cheers!

I prefer this testboard to the RF Demo Kit For NanoVNA because of the sma

Thanks, that looks great

How do you calculate complex choking impedance?

Cheers!

Re: Just Bought nanoVNA

Hi Run

I did not realize before now you bought a nonoVNA ?

Kind regards

Kurt

Hi, I'm Ron WA0RJ.

I just ordered a nonoVNA which will arrive in a few days. I'm looking for advice concerning what to install on my laptop to use the device from the computer. Anything else I can do to get ready to become familiar with it will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Just Bought nanoVNA

Hi Run
Go to the homepage of Gun thard Kraus and read his excellent document about NanoVNA and the program NanoVNA-saver which is a must to install
NanoVNA-saver to find on
Just install it even before the NanoVNA arrives and study it
You will also find links to other software but the do not "beat" the NanoVNA-saver
Kind regards
Kurt

Re: Just Bought nanoVNA

I actually prefer the software, although it's true that if I were on the
roof, I'd prefer not to have a computer dangling.

but in the shack, the ability to view and save and "mouse around" the
images, and set different parameters and resweep quickly is nice.

Re: nanoVNA-H -Strange behavior with YAGI Ant

So who was telling the truth? The nanoVNA or the SWRmeter?
If the driven element was 2 cm too long, then the nanoVNA was right when it said that resonance was at 142 MHz?

???? And so much more!? It also allows you to do sweeps with as many points as you like, as opposed to the 101 point limit on a standalone NanoVNA.

I started with a program called nanoSaver or similar name.? But then I decided I'd rather use the nano by itself.? The display isn't that small and it's a lot nicer not having a cord dangling.

Re: Question about Calibration document

Hello Al,

Yes, the procedure that is created in that document is based on calibration of the 2 channel, port 0 and port 1, with the supplied coaxial cables. Yes, the calibration pieces are attached at the end of the cables. Namely short, open and as you noted the kit has but one 50 ohm termination. Completion of the S21 cal requires the two cables to be connected together and so a female - female thru adapter is required. On the isolation, the intent is to minimize radiation or cross talk from CH0 to CH1 when the ISOL key is pressed. For the most part if you leave port 0 (CH0) terminated in 50 ohm and leave CH1 cable end open; I think that will be fine. You might dress the CH1 cable end at least far apart from CH0 cable end, again to minimize stray signal coupling during the ISOL cal process. The whole intent of all this is an attempt to minimize the noise floor present after calibration and maximize the device dynamic range.
